Where can I buy an Aphicide that kills aphids Only?

Every year I have a serious Aphid problem with 40 different Ribes bushes I have in my home garden. Aphids feed on new growth and multiply in geometric progressions. So I have to fight them relentlessly or I end up with crippled branches that never grow more than a few inches instead of several feet. Aphids effect fruit yields the following year.

My garden is too large to handpick or powerwash aphids. I always try soaps/oils, but always have to move on to something stronger. Soaps and oils choke plants before they choke aphids.

I end up using natural Pyretherins, which breakdown rapidly, but they are very toxic to all insects. I don't want to kill ANYTHING other than aphids.

I read about commercial products developed specifically for APHIDS (Aphicides): Pirimor, Aphox and so on... Aphicides only work on aphids and no other insects. But I cannot find any aphicides for home sale in stores or online.

Have anybody heard about WHERE APHICIDES ARE SOLD?

I've never heard of an aphicide but a good blast from the hose works great. It will take daily application for about a wk. but think about the positive relationship you will develop with the plants.

As I said on the IPM forum start with your soil. The presence of Aphids, especially in large numbers, indicates a soil related problem.

Deebs, I have 5 trees planted, 2 in the back, but it'll be awhile before they get large enough for the birds to nest in them. They used to use my large climbers too. With all the cats they'd have to make them up really high. One is a redwood though hitting close to 20 feet tall now, not as easily climbed so maybe. I can't distinguish really between all the worms on the roses, most eat holes through the buds and eat the roses, others the foliage too. I'd like to think the ones I miss are eatting aphids:) Duchesse, they tried to petition the subdivision owner on the claim they didn't know the ponding basin was going to be there. That's a lie, I went through the same process they did to pick the house I wanted. It was right there on the site plan and the layout. In fact we paid extra to get a larger lot to be sort of behind it, about 20ft. They bought their houses knowing that was behind them, they were all sold at a premium price for that much yard. They wanted the basin filled in. Won't happen, by city law there has to be a basin at each new subdivison for the water to go when it rains to help on flooding. The only activity I ever see at the basin area is a couple times a year they come through with a tractor and take out all the weeds. The basin is home to mud ducks and others and geese off and on all year. I like to hear the honks and bullfrogs over dogs barking anytime. I think some of them walk around and squish them on purpose. I saw one of the neighbors vacuuming them up with one of those shop vacs one year. These are all relatively young people that have never owned a home before. They have no idea what they're suppressing and the price they'll pay. They just want to complain about nature. This was a walnut orchard and home to all the birds in the past. I imagine there are so many toads because nature is responding to the masses of white flies. I imagine over time the number will diminish especially with all the poisons/chemicals they'll put out on their yards and bushes. Sorry, pet rant:) I've admired your roses and gardens Patricia, I'm only resistant because they've already ruined those roses, I can't reclaim that now. It's too late. That one rose in the pics above is Irresistible, a mini. There isn't a bud that doesn't look like that. I found 14 ladybugs on it yesterday. The white looking bush behind it is a floribunda hitting over 5' tall for size on this rose. You can barely see the canes behind the redwood even taller. This was last night and these bushes just don't photo well for me in the sun and not enough light, but it gives you an idea of how large. I did try the flour on some of them yesterday skipping where the ladybugs were. That was almost as much fun as blasting with water, some were startled into flight. Some washed off easier, but others are crammed into every nook and cranny of the buds and leaves and new growth. It irritated the bees, lucky they don't like me:) As far as Murphy's Law goes, I was too pleased with early spring and all the healthy looking bushes. I was last year too and spider mites devastated them about this time. So, yeah you better knock on wood, LOL* I know what you're talking over on the Hover Bees but I think they're called something else, Deebs, still I have all different colored ones. Dark green, light green, stripped not stripped. This one had stripes too, from last year's infestation:) I have a terrible memory so if I find one of these, I kill them. About 10-12 years ago I, too, thought my suspiciously well-contained patch of peppermint had gone to the big garden in the sky. The next spring I realised he'd actually been busy travelling: under the patio and into the garden proper. We had a freakishly-warm, extended spell of nice weather that year and as a result I found myself mowing the yard in mid-March. As I was mowing around the raised beds I smelled mint, and when I took a better look discovered a brand new patch of it measuring about 6' x 3'. In a panic, I began ripping up the runners and this is how I ascertained the route he'd taken to set up his new digs. I immediately understood that resistance was futile, since there was no way in hell I was gonna be doin' any diggin' under that 12' x 8' concrete patio. From then on I mainly just kept an eagle eye on it and whenever mint would pop up in a path or a bed I'd yank it out. Oh, and the original patch that I thought was dead? Well, it wasn't.

I don't use any oils or pesticides for insect control as I grow organically. google Arbico. they specialize in beneficial insects. I ordered three praying manti egg cases. one for my yard and for my neighbors on both sides. one egg case hatches abou two hundred manti. They devour every insect you hate. and once they live out their life cycle they lay their own egg cases. so now I have an ongoing population of manti. I live an hour north of death Valley so its a desrt hot blazing summers freezing winters if my manti can stay alive year after year your area will support them as well. also consider Ladybugs these are literalyy the toughest bug in the pack they eat every single pest bug you can imagine problem is when they eat everything they move on to find more food. I even take my baby manti indoors to work over my bonsai and houseplants I leave a couple of windows open all the time for my cats to get in and out. so manti have an escape, or entrance if they choose. I grow vegetables, tobacco, fruit, housplants and bonsai. this was a permanent and inexpensive solution to my bug problem. Good Luck!!!!

Aphids only going for my habanero?

The picture with the fruit is habanero I did a kind of overwinter but it grows new leaves so fast. I am newbie of planting chillis. The habanero seeds I have taken from the chillis I have bought for my cooking and fortunately all the seeds were germinated and grow very healthy and only I keep about 10 plants for the next season all of them were pruned. The rest are ghost chilli and Trinida Scorpion Moruga respectively I bought it from Amazon and ebay but I am not sure about these plants but still I take care. It is my first time post here. I would like to get some help to protect the plants from aphids, I like to destroy the eggs of aphids from the soil but I do not know how to do it any help will be respected.

I have a great relationship with my plants, especially when they have lots of delicious fruit. Yum. But my relationship could be even better if I could find an effective solution for the annual aphid problem.

Sorry, oosa...aphicides are not available for home gardeners or gardens. Period.

You might try switching out your horticultural oils and insecticidal soaps. There are so many on the market these days. Be sure to put a neem product on the 'menu'.

Over the years I've been through many oils. If they are applied too often, even when they are light and refined, they still choke leaves. Which slows growth just as bad as aphids do. I also apply heavier oils in the winter in hopes to kill whatever overwinters.

With aphids, there are some very bad periods, especially in the beginning of the season when they don't even mate, just multiply. So if I don't uncurl every leaf, the next day they take up entire bush. And then again I oil and water, and soap them, and the process repeats - more aphids the next day.

It is really hard and time consuming to hand pick aphids from 40 mature 6ft tall black currant bushes every 2 days for a period of 2 months. I am not looking forward to this season... I love the berries though, they keep me going. I make wine, juice, jam, freeze and dry them. mmm

Each state may/is different in how it handles pesticides and sales of them (non-restricted use pesticides that is). Take the pesticide Endeavor...soft pesticide, works only on white flies and aphids, CAUTION label, not restricted use, labeled for landscape ornamentals. Here in the Pacific Northwest, anyone could walk in and buy it...but the price is what most homeowners would choke on. It is a commercial product, they can legally buy it and use it...but how much are they willing to pay to solve the problem???...spraying with water may end up looking a lot cheaper.

CORRECTION...is does state not for use by homeowners...I read a bit quickly, sorry. Wait a couple of years, it may hit retail market.
But it is still is not a restricted use pesticide (need a licence to buy), the seller would need to recognize you as a landscaper and you could write the big check if you wished....

Your original post stated that soaps choke your plants. Have you tried dishwashing liquid soap instead of the products made for plants. You might try a squirt or two in a hose end sprayer.

That's where things are going wrong. By that stage, the aphids have already been feeding for an extended period.

Because you know you have the same problem every year, the key to success is to keep an eye on the new growth from the very earliest stage.

Then, you can be successful with just the harsh blast of water when you start as soon as you spot the aphids. Then repeat the water blast as needed.

With such close monitoring, plus repeated water blasts as needed, the leaves won't ever get to the severely curled stage.

I hope it is a matter of time before more selective pesticides are developed. But for now, pesticide shelves in garden centers are full of Sevin. It is such a strong toxic product, and so many people use it in their gardens without doing any research, on their blooming rose bushes! with no regard for the pollinating insects.

Why not just get some ladybugs (aka ladybird beetles)? They are aphid's natural predators and usually be purchased if you can't just find some hanging around.

Use Neem in the evening after the sun sets. It kills aphids that get contact sprayed almost immediately by asphyxiation. Neem also works by screwing with their heads and aphids that feed on leaves treated will eventually die of starvation and the life cycle will be broken when the forget to breed. Dish soap and water also works well on aphids.
Spraying daily with water will drown the plants IMO as the soil will become water logged and wont allow oxygen to get to the roots.
