I brought back cuttings in November of 06 from Oahu. Since they are likely slower rooting in the winter etc. I took chop sticks and made little tripods to help stablize them in the pots. Then, potted them up just like regular. I dip the ends in rooting liquid then rootone rooting powder. Put them in a sunny spot, watered a little less than normal, and away they went. Mine were Panang Peach and a rainbow from Waianae Army Rec Center.

Wait till the outside temperature gets at least 50 or above before you plant your cuttings. Unless of course you are planning on putting them in a greenhouse. If you plant during the winter months you risk rotting your cutting. It's better to store your cutting till the temps warm up. Your odds are better for getting your plant to root. Of course this is my opinion and been only growing plumerias since 1996. I have taken cuttings from as far away as Fiji and as close to me as downtown LA. I've lived in the desert and the valley and have had some diverse conditions to work in. I'm going to post some giant spider lilies soon. They go good with plumies.

Hi Sandy eggo - the room you described sounds great. Because I'm a very impatient person and must root year round, I would root it now. Just my 2cents.

I'm rooting several cuttings right now. The cuttings are near a very bright, very warm grow light. The room temp is over 75 degrees while the light is on. The potting medium they are in is barely moist and light in consistency. The cuttings were left in a cool garage to callus over for about 3 weeks first. I've rooted numerous cuttings over the winter. I think it's key to make sure they're warm and not too wet. The cooler they are, the dryer they need to be. But they can root (albeit slowly) over winter. Some varieties may be easier than others. It also depends on the condition of the cuttings...how mature they are, how fat, how fresh, etc.

Yeah Dave makes a very subtle but important point. That is, Some varieties ARE easier than others. In fact, some are kinda hard to root, even in the summer. For instance Paula's Pink and Aztec Gold are easy to root, but I have found the common Red, and Jeannie Moragne pretty tough.

I was delighted and given a large and very tall triple branch cutting, thick and healthy in the late summer..I put it In a 5 gallon container.

I have it in a window, on a table with lots of light from two windows side by side, inside, in my studio/craftroom. I took the large cutting out to see if it was rotting, has thick nubs starting to root. I carefully put the plant back into the soil. So far is ok, somewhat wrinkled..teeny water. I hope it continues to live, would love to see this large white one bloom someday.. I don't have grow lights. there is also another cutting in that soil, hope it makes it too..

I planted an 8' cutting a few months back. The top 4' seem fine, but now the rest of the plant is wrinked. It wasn't wrinked when I got the cutting. What does this mean and can I save the plant. Should I cut the top part of and plant it?

Jason, I am not that knowledgeable, and hope the experts will soon respond to your question. Just check on the bottom part to make sure it is not rotting; then, I would think you would have to cut that part off and start again.
