Digging animals, yellow fruit on an orange plant?

So I woke up this morning to a big hole in the middle of one side of my garden, and 4 of my pepper plants had been dug up, moved and buried. I suspect its my neighbor's (aunt) dog. She's convinced her little precious cannot and would not dig, and maybe she's right. But digging and burying seems more like a dog thing than a raccoon, possum, or rabbit thing. Especially since, other than having been badly handled, they are still in pretty good shape - no nibbles. Anything special I should do for them to help them recover?

Also on one of my un-affected plants, I picked a yellow habanero off of an orange hab plant. as you can see in the picture, the orange moves from the top to the bottom with a very thin line of yellow separating orange and green. So perhaps this one is just riding the short bus?

I put it on my window sill and will keep you posted... If it is really a yellow hab from an orange hab plant, will it grow yellow hab plants, or orange?
