FWIW, I use straight tea tree oil plus antibiotic ointment on sore cuts & scrapes, etc. - most of the remedies I see mentioned (besides the neosporin/peroxide) will alleviate pain, but do nothing to prevent or reduce infection. Tetanus shots are for tetanus & there are numerous other germs that can infect a wound - staph is a biggie & MRSA can be a big concern these days. IME, if a cut gets red & sore, that means infection, & painkillers may make you feel better, but they're not doing anything to fight infection. Best to nip it in the bud & don't allow it to possibly get out of control.Basic First Aid is to wash cuts well w/ soap & water, then dry & treat w/ antibiotic & cover, if appropriate. Open wounds & yardwork don't mix. Just my 2 cents - sorry it's a bit late, HTH....

Very cool that your fortunei made it they are remarkable palms to say the least! I have noticed with palms esp and some other plants that with these companies shipping bareroot that some of them think that means we just throw it in a box and bye bye good luck!and some of these(e-bay)growers are very carefull and do a great job protecting these plants I try and remember whos who when it comes to return biz ,this bare root thing is incredibly hard on palms esp and shipping in winter really makes recovery a LONG process esp this time of year,(some of my palms still have not recovered and one waggie is still in a slow decline!)all that said I did get a yunnan banana December 8th it was low 20s and sat outside for a few hrs when I opened it it was crispy and started to mush I cut it down to where it felt solid about 3" from soil line and in a day or two it was pushing up a new leaf!its on its 5th leaf now and has grown about a foot,if a banana plant can recover your needle sure can!but they grow slow this time of year esp considering your needles history the good news is its spring!so get that sucker planted out in the yard like blondboy47 says in some nice sandy fast draining soil,make sure to loosen the soil when you plant so the roots can expand out easily but I'd wait until then cuz its been through enough,speaking of enough.Good Luck!

Well, I did not get everything, ( or anything for that matter) done today, in so far as getting anything in the ground. However, I did get these today: ***************** So, a short trip to home depot here in Alexandria (S. Pickett St. for those familliar) and what do I find that had just arrived there? ....... Sabal Minor. About 30 of them. The tag calls them "blue dwarf palmettos", and then the actual name underneath the title on the tag was S. Minor. $23.00. I couldnt resist. I went thru them and picked out the one that was the most visually appealing to me. The one I liked only had 2 growth tips, most of them had 3. I know they are young, but some of them are producing fan leaves like the one I got. Some of them were just starting to produce fan leaves and had mostly strap leaves, while some had shed most of their strap leaves, and had more fan leaves like the one I purchased. Was completely NOT expecting to see those there, so of COURSE I had to purchase one, especially when I discovered the price. =o) Ok, sorry for the S. Minor bit in the needle thread. On to more "ON TOPIC" things... I mentioned I was heading down to a place I "rediscovered" last week, to my surprise that had tons of cold hardy palms, yuccas, and some sago palms... ill post a whole n other thread with pics about that shortly.... Anyway, I went back for the needle palms I mentioned earlier in this thread for $89.00, that were pretty good size. Well, everything was %25 off, so I actually got it for $70.26. Anyway, here it is. She is pretty healthy looking, aside from a few old dead fans and straps that need to be removed. She's got about 6 or so sizeable suckers, and her main trunk is fairly tall maybe 6-8"? and, I think it is a she. She has an old flower spike on her main crown that you can see in one of the pics, and she stands about 2 feet tall or so at her largest leaf tips. Anyway...not trying to gloat at all here, but she is a pretty nice specimine and at a great price dont ya think? Here she is....
