Looks like a slow start to spring with lot's of chilly weather around.

We are finally getting some rain and hopefully it will heat up
after this rainy pattern/or be rainy and hot!

Very nice, how do you protect your cacti over the winter? I had about 2" of rain with 50 mph winds today and 2 of my 3ft. spanish bayonets fell over. just rotted right above the mulch. I never protect any of my cacti or agaves so it had to be the wet winter cause we've had much colder. Can I rootone the section above the rot and replant that part? I really don't want to start over with a small yucca again and have to wait for it to grow.

It looks like all your plants did at least survive this past winter.It snowed here more last winter than I ever remember.I know your part of the country had a very cold winter and lots of snow.I saw the pictures of your collapsed cactus and yucca enclosure.I hope everything survived.Love the Waggie,it's my favorite Trachycarpus palm so far.Most people like the T.princeps best,there nice looking palms,but not for the money everyone wants for them.I ordered some B.eriospatha x capitata palms and I want to try some T.fortunei x wagnerianus palms.I've been getting into the hybrid palms lately.It should warm up for you before long and everything will take off like last year.

North of Florida palms has the best deals on Princeps I have seen,that's where I got the 3 I have -one is planted.
Seeing them up close might leave you a little more torn between the two.
That said,I love Waggies too!

I know exactly what you mean about Aloifolia!

Mine snapped(in high winds)2 years ago or it would be 6' right now at least!

They root easily so,no worries there-mine is secured to a small post now...probably would have been halved anyway
when the "G-house collapsed in the blizzard last winter.

Wow Jim! You must be getting a lot more warmth than I am. I wouldn't dream of planting my bananas yet. Are your trees budding and flowering yet? Did your big Thai Giant survive overwintering?

Yeah, lost my agave americana when my cover failed at Christmas during an 10" snow storm. That was the only plant I protected. Which was a mistake because now I am giving my oldest windmill the peroxide treatment.

The Crab-apples,Redbuds,Dogwoods,Magnolias etc,are all blooming-we have had a lot of warm days,only about 3 days
below 60(f) this month-that will change this week though.

Supposed to be chilly all week,then warm up by the weekend
and hopefully stay warmer-at least more so than this crappy
up-coming week.

You can see a leaf from the Thai giant Colocasia in the first picture(upper right).

Great pics! Your yard is going to be even more like a tropical jungle than last year. My Sabal Domingensis looks like its K.O. from this winter. Even if its alive, recovery is going to be very very very (times 100) slow. So after seeing your pics, I think Im adding a washingtonia! They are beautiful palms, fast growers, and if they are as cold tolerant as my livistonia, then they should have little damage from my winters with my protection.

Jim, a great garden as always. So you overwintered the banana trucks in your garage? They look fine and that one really trunk shall really fill in this year!

Chade in NC. Glad you were able to have your pindo palm survive. Even a southern 7a in NC needs a winter cover unless a few miles near the coast. Southern 7a places are considered border locations where some winters you do not need cover and others you do. Its the same ideology for Atlanta, GA. Depends on a mild winter.
