The garage is fairly cool in the summer, and quite dark, but is it better to keep them in a dark place in an air-conditioned room, perhaps under a bed? I really think the cool garage will suffice just fine, stored the day you described. Also, I know daffodil bulbs are toxic and most animals avoid eating them, but if we keep them in the garage, should we critter-proof the container in some way just in case? We had a squirrel living in our garage last year. I'm not really sure. I have heard of squirrels digging up bulbs and then either leaving them on the surface soil, or replanting them a bit....so they may get into them, and just misplace them. If there is much of a chance of them being disturbed, I'd maybe cover them with some iron cloth or something. You might cover them with come metal chicken wire, or some Square Wire Mesh which is great to have on hand anyway. Sue...chemocurl

Storing bulbs for a few weeks will not be a problem. Keep them in a cool place with good air circulation and they will be fine. Al

My situation is that I may be moving sometime in the next year. I have read that it isn't good to lift daffodils while in bloom or before the leaves wither. A friend recommended that I lift the bulbs now and pack them in peat moss, but I have a couple hundred bulbs, no basement or cellar, and not a lot of room in my condo. Honestly at this point I'm leaning towards leaving them in the ground and figuring things out when my plans become more solidified. If I have to, I can leave them behind :(

I bought what sounded exactly like this current Costco gunny sack of Daffodils item 2 years ago. They did well for me here in Huntsville Alabama. I thought it was quite a good bargain. I grew them in a brand new flower bed that I dug out about 8 inches deep, then filled with purchased potting soil mixed with spagnum moss. They bloomed well, and I later pulled them all up and found that most had become 2 or even 3 daffodils. Where their roots had grown down into the clay below the potting soil, they suddenly turned from white to red roots. They are all over my place now. All identical, but beautiful, as of this spring. This summer I just let them stay in place and I have no idea how many I'll have come up next spring. Could be a lot more - could be fewer. We'll see! One thing I noticed about them is that this year when I left them all in place to gather strength all summer for next year, the tops stayed green all summer. A long time to be there right out in public when it would have been nice to see other things than the plain green leaves. So probably would be a good idea to plant these along with something else to grow up and somewhat cover their not all that wonderful leaves. Jim
