Windmill palm, zone 5b

I live in central mo, in zone 5b. I just purchased a windmill palm, and would like to grow it outdoors. It seems to me that this thing should only really need to be covered over for maybe the coldest month or two of our winter. There's a nursery nearby that put their windmills outside (under an awning) about 2 months ago. They still look ok. I think it's really just january and some of february that would be out of the palm's tolerance. I could be wrong. Maybe what kills these things is more duration of cold weather (within tolerances) than brief exposure to temps below tolerance. Anyway, any insights from people in similar areas would be much appreciated.
