I'm actually feeling better about my palms. The Adonidia's I had that were small 2-3 ft and had three trees growing together... I lost 2 on each group, but one in each is coming back. My Adonidia's that are 8-9 ft...coming back. I lost 3 alexandria's that were planted Dec 21st. All my Areca's survived, but just lost 1 or 2 small trunks. I have 3 Spindles that are ok. My Coconuts....I thought one was gone, so I cut of all fronds and was trying to dig it up, but it was to hard to dig so I left it. Well, to my surprise there is a NEW green frond coming up...I think it's gonna be ok. I did spray all w/ copper fungicide, but not until April. I do have one other Coconut that I'm watching. This was my 1st exp. w/ freeze damaged palms. On the coconuts, I pulled out the rottrn middle fronds and that was why I thought they were gone.

We just inherited (no joke) 10 immature Christmas Palms, I've been joking that we should name our property "The home for wayward Palm Trees". They all look about the same and I have no doubt many will not make it, but if even a few do it will be worth it. We planted ours spaced out by about 12 feet along the property line of the empty lot adjacent to ours (with that owner's blessing) and we're filling in the middle with some baby fish tails a friend has donated as well. All of the trees were free (people who were ready to just throw in the towel) so it's a grand experiment. I know that attempting to transplant a palm in this state is an enormous risk, but free is free and they just might make it. I'll update in a few months and let you know how it goes. I'd love to hear updates on anyone else who is holding out for their Christmas Palms to make it too.

I have the "golden" variety as well as the usual green one. But the fronds on the golden are more yellow with the colour evenly spread. They like full sun, provided it's not from a life of shade straight into the sun. I'd expect sunburn to show up more severely than what you have there. For plants in pots there's a fine balance sometimes between too much or too little (imbalanced) fertiliser. Iron deficiency can show up as a yellowing of leaves and high soil pH can lead to this. If it is some mild deficiency then a balanced fertiliser with trace elements should help.

I have a 3-bedroom house in Cathedral City with a heated pool and hot tub/spa, but it's urban, and so you would not be interested. Also, we cannot rent it at the moment because there is a moratorium on new STVR's (short term vacation rentals) in Cathedral City, although that is supposed to be lifted by the end of the year. My brother and I stayed in the Donovan Suite at the Joshua Tree Inn a couple of years ago and loved it, but the pool is not heated and there is no hot tub/spa. We were there for Thanksgiving, but this Thanksgiving we will be at our house in CC, doing some work and visiting Joshua Tree and/or Anza Borrego. You might want to consider Anza Borrego, because it does have hot springs in Agua Caliente County Park. The scenery is great, and there is a special trail for hiking during the full moon - it is very surreal, and you do not need flashlights. Unfortunately, around Christmas this year, there will be a new moon. Also, you would need a tent or an RV to stay at the county park, but there are motels/resorts nearby in Borrego Springs. I would recommend avoiding Indio and 29 Palms. If you do go to Joshua Tree, you can visit La Copine Restaurant in Yucca Valley, which is now accepting reservations, which would be a must. It is very close to the Integratron in Landers, which you could visit for a sound bath - reservations also needed. After having a sound bath there, my arthritis pain was completely gone and did not return for a week. Since then I have lost weight, and that also got rid of my arthritis pain. There are some decent restaurants in Joshua Tree, including a good Thai restaurant, but they do get crowded, especially during holidays. Best to arrive early, as most people seem to eat late.
