I still have a little more than a month before the cold tolerant stuff start to go back out. First to go out will be my windmill palm seedlings, and my medditeranean fan palm. By early april the spanish moss will be out with my sago palm and a few others as well as all the cannas which are being started in pots indoors in about 3 week. My queen palm will probably go out too. Then in mid april most of my plants will go outside except for the plumerias and the heavier plants (so that way if an unexpected frost comes I dont have to drag a heavy plant back inside), and by early may everything will be outside unless the weather is unusually cool, but by mid may everythign will definitely be out.

Only about a month left of cold weather by me, march isnt a great month weather-wise, but temps arent usually cold. April usually doesnt go below 30F for the lowest temp so most of my plants will be out. All the palms that I have outside now probably wont need there protection once march comes as long as it doesnt rain too much (which might cause rot if its cold at night)

My coco had a bad winter indoors-aphids and the extra cloudy days. I lost two full sized fronds and almost a third. I cleaned her up and cleared out a space right up against a sunny window-she lost some color. I know this year when I acclimate back to the outdoors-its going in full,full sun. They love sun..by late May in the bay area.Earlier,If April is warm.

Most of my more delicate palms are grown in pots so they came into the house but all the yard palms seem to have pulled through Looking around the neighborhood the coconuts seem to have the most damage.
Set a record on both the daytime high(42) as well as 14 hours under 32 degrees. Has been colder even had a snow one year but this one was the worst I can remember.
Only thing that was killed to the ground was a Panama hat palm (Carlodovica) I thought it was a lot tougher lol gary

You warming up on the west coast is a sign we will eventually feel the longer days warm up the atmosphere here in zone 7.

At least my green house is have longer warmer days, lol. Its been a little below average for looong stretches for daytime highs here in the Mid -Atlantic/ southeast New England - so much for global warming.

My covered plams are doing well since the cold has been steady but no too low. The cold hardy palms in pots will wait til late March/ early April before I place them outside, unless we get an early warm-up. (I can be a bit over cautious). But if a record cold came in March it could damage even cold-hardy potted palms in this zone despite the strong sun trajectory we have in March, which is similar to upper CA.

We're still a bit cooler than you, but spring is already in the air! Our lows are in the 40 and our highs in the 60s. Despite that, there are a ton of things breaking dormancy: plums, peaches, erythrinas, blue potato bushes... Other plants like crabapples and some cherries are already in full bloom. My aloes and citrus are sending out their bloom spikes and buds, as are anigozanthos. Lavandula and rosemary have bloomed all winter for me and they're sending out more bloom spikes! I think it's still too cool for most palms to resume growth, but a Jubaea Chilensis seedling hasn't missed a beat. It sent out a new frond this winter and looks like it's sending out another. Dypsis Decipiens also have brightly-colored spears showing up right now.
