colder weather and mums

Does anyone know how much cold mums can take? After tonight and tomorrow night, it's going to warm up again. I was thinking about covering my mums, unless I've waited too long already. It's still dark so I haven't looked at them yet today. I think it got down to 32 last night.

I'm not sure.
I'm getting ready to go out and check mine also.
I did get all of the rest of my plants divided and moved yesterday.
So hope to get a little more from my mums.

By this time of year, I don't cover any perennials. My mums look OK at a distance this morning.

It was 31Â° here this morning.

Thanks , guys! So, we learn something about sweet peppers here, and that is; they like cool nights, lots of water and good dose of ferilizers. Down south gardeners constantly complain about "small size, thin walled" bell peppers and that they are not producing much, how come? ... !!!We now know why. But with the chilies I did not have any problem in hot summer months. Amazingly, my eggplants, which are also supposed to be heat loving plants, are doing better now (day highs low 80s, night lows low 60s) than did in July and August.SURPRISE, AGAIN! I am learning something everyday here at GW. Thanks to the input and contributions of gardeners like you, and thank internet for all of this. Cyrus Only tomatoes seem to love as much heat that they can get.Add also cucurbita too.

I think what you're asking is what veggies require heat mats. In my opinion peppers like a heat mat. I have 5 pots on my window sill of peppers, none have germinated. I also have tomatoes and cabbage. 2 of 2 tomatoes and 3 of 4 cabbage have germinated. I grow tomatoes and a few cukes every year and have never used a heat mat. I tried lights one year and think it was a lot of ugly mess. The seedlings did look better, but in my opinion once you put seedlings in the ground there's not much difference months later when you go to harvest your produce. I've started zucchini in trays and think they do better just planting seeds in the ground when it warms up.

Can I bareroot dormant fruit tree in colder weather?

Best to repot immediately before the tree's spring push gets underway. If the soil/root mass crumbles when you depot the plant, there is no pressing need to do a full repot (includes bare-rooting and root pruning along with a change of soil). If the soil/root mass comes away from the pot intact, root congestion will be taking a toll on growth/development rate, vitality, the tree's ability to defend itself, and likely eye appeal if that's a consideration, so a full repot would be a notably beneficial. The tree is likely beyond the state of being truly dormant and has passed into quiescence, a state of quiet rest during which the tree is fully capable of growing but cold temperatures act to suppress bud activity. Once the tree has experienced warmth above about about 45* for several consecutive days and growth begins, the ability to withstand freezing temperatures will be significantly reduced, meaning the plant will need protection from frost. Will they freze and die back?
Or will they take a lite freeze and come back for a little while?
If they can't take it, I may cover mine tonight.
I would really like to have them looking nice for this weekend.
Family is supposed to stop by w/grandchildren.
All of the children like to walk around w/me to look at/touch everything.

I am taking notes. All tender things froze last night including crepe myrtle foliage. But Cilantro, lettuce, cat mint, agastache, columbine, rose, collards, ornamental grass, daylily, galliardia, many shrubs and petunia foliage took it well. Rose flowers look droopy. Some things can take a little cold. I would cover your mums tonight just to be safe. I think after tonight it will be warmer for a few days. I picked bouquets and picked green tomatoes and wrapped them in newspaper last weekend.

I just bought a family milk cow and her baby and that has taken my attention since Saturday. I meant to pick some green tomatoes and peppers.....didn't.

Probably too late now. I was 28Â°here this morning.
