Guess the spear game

I am not very savvy at Palm ID, but I thought of a game that might be fun and take people's minds off of the cold weather that's majorly sucking for some at the moment. Its called "Guess the Spear". You don't win anything, except of course RESPECT of all your pals on the forum for being so very knowledgeable. But its a way to kill some time during the winter.

Here's my entry. I took this today after doing my Neem Spray. What palm is this spear from?

Hi Lisa, If it suckers—and if it was coming up thru pavers I assume it does—all you have to do is to look around the “outside” of the plant for “small” plants that are rooted and can be (hopefully fairly easily) dug up and potted as separate plants. I think that might be easiest to do when it starts actively growing in spring. If you can’t find suckers, I’m not sure! I suspect you could take one of the longer (and smaller) canes and bend it over so it’s touching the ground and “attach” it to the soil at some places, or bury parts of the cane slightly in the soil, and wait to see if roots develop at those points—I think that might work, but I’m really not sure! Maybe some other Rose Person will be along with more “rose expertise” than I have! I’m not really a Rose Person! But I know some folks around here have started them from cuttings, just have never done it myself, so not sure of the best way! David, can you start them in straight perlite? Here’s how to get your “real name” back! Go to “your page” (don’t know what it’s called now!), click on “edit profile,” then put your “original GW screen name” in the “first name” box, and if you want to add your zone and location, put that info in the “last name” box! Strange system, but it works, and at least there IS a way for us to Continue To Be Who We Are! Houzz said, or at least implied, that anyone with the same name as somebody already on their site had their name changed—but I have a HARD time believing there was already a lisaluwho on their site!!! Joey and Lorelei, you are right! Who'd a thunk sansiverrias could be appreciated for their delicious fragrance? Not me anyway. Annie and Joanna, no -- you do not get to be jealous of the rain! ... LOL Because, on average Austin gets about three inches more a year than San Antonio (you lucky people :-) and not only that it's comes more regularly. So enjoy it! ... :-) Lorelei, after I learned what a wafer ash looks like I saw one growing less than half a mile from my house! I looked for seedlings, but couldn't find any. I did collect some seeds to share. Pam, thanks for enjoying my yard with me, and that goes for all of you. Much appreciation.

Thank you all. Such a wide range of pricing. The GC is not a friend or family member. I will try to do the reveal and costs tomorrow. FY - total cost not including appliances/fixtures/sinks/lighting (which came to about $20K) was $60K. I also tipped the workers what probably amounted to around 2% of the job. As someone above said and I agree, the package pricing IMO was a mistake for my personality, but in the end I think it worked out. Papillons and shedding. Kinda, sorta. But not that much. We have had lots of dogs and on a scale of 1-10 I would say around 3.5. My husband takes me to the airport a lot and the tan one sheds sitting on me, the little black one doesn't so much. So, if I am wearing a black suit, I put a blanket over me. When we sweep, there is dog hair and when we vacuum there is dog hair. That said - they sleep in our bed and dog hair isn't on the bedding. There aren't doghair dust bunnies floating by in the breeze when a door opens. Sometime there is a collection in a corner if we haven't swept in a week. I am allergic to a lot of stuff, some dogs included. I am not affected by them. They should be brushed a few times a week but it isn't horrible if we go a week or two and don't. They get a bath every other month or so. I have clippers and scissors and do a "sani cut" That is all. You would want to do that or take them to a groomer every few months. If you cut any of their ear hair you will go straight to Hell.

Calyptrocalyx polyphyllus? What a list of plants you have there girl! That has to keep you pretty busy. My guess was totally based on the "swag" system.( sophisticated wild @ss guess)

bihai - after reading your tradelist I can't help but feel a little inadequate. I had no idea there were that many plants in plantdom. I have made an emergency appointment with my therapist for Friday morning so I can talk about my inferiority complex. I'll let you know how it turns out and whether I'll ever be able to post again.

Now, now, oppalm.... its really okay. I know I told you all this, but I am OLD. You think I am only "almost 50" but I do believe that I did mention once that I was actually a very, very old vampire. I have actually been "undead" for much more than 50 years and as such have had a whole lot of time to collect plants. Not to mention, I rob all my victims after I drain their blood, so I have unlimited resources as well. I just have to be certain that I keep my supply of sunscreen and my collection of dark glasses well stocked, so I can venture out to the nurseries. Of course, since the advent of the Internet (boy was THAT a good thing for us vamps, yessiree bob) I rarely have to leave my lair, I just use my Visa and boom! plants appear on my doorstep!
