Lost my loved one

Just wanted to tell everyone I lost my husband of 54 years, last Sunday night. He loved my orchids as much as I did. He was a wonderful husband and Father. This forum has been so interesting for me I really enjoy it. Thank-you all! Tricia

I hope I get to spend 54 years with my spouse--but I'm sure that's no consolation to you.

Hello all... thanks for all the kind words. I am still trying to struggle through the day. Somedays I am ok, but others not that great. It was her birthday on October 20th. She would have been 64 or "39" as she would have said. We went to the park and fed the ducks... she always liked to do that. I also brought daisys and popped the tops off and placed them in the water. I miss the way that I would call her and she would be willing to go with me on what ever adventure I wanted to go on that day. She was always there for me. I know I am lucky to have a person like that and that it was my Mom, but it hurts no less. I am trying to build a new "normal". It is rough though because everything I do reminds me of her. I started to move around furniture in our house and I was thinking that everything I touched we bought together. She was a great decorator and I have no decorating sense at all. I just wonder when the feeling that I am completly lost and alone will go away. The holidays are coming and I hate it. I think we are going to plan a vacation at Christmas so I don't have to think about it. I don't know about Thanksgiving. Mom used to make the best mashed potatoes. This is so freaking hard. I think I am going to check into counseling again. It is so hard because I put on a strong face when I am out, but crumble when I get to my car or at home. I talk to my husband, but I don't think he really understands. What do you all do for the holidays?? Any ideas on how to get through them?

This is a beautiful story. You are blessed to have those trees and to have had our uncle. I visited my bet friend's grave for the first time this Thanksgiving weekend. She died July 11, 2005. I have not been able to visit her grave since her ashes were interred in 2006. I braced myself, drove 90 minutes, and went and saw the gravestone this weekend. I'm glad I did. She is buried in her family's plot in a beautiful spot in the hills. Her ashes, I mean. She is not buried at all - she is with me, her husband, daughter, parents, sisters and everyone who loves her all day every day. I have several hostas she gave me over the years. I have kept the ground around them clear (no mulch) so I get "volunteers" every year. I plant her "hosta babies" to enlarge my hosta beds. I am thankful to her for those volunteers every summer.

Kate I am so sorry for your loss. I do not have pets, but I have in the past and I know how they are part of the family. My daughter has a 'zoo' and they have a small party business. When they moved the pink corn snake that belonged to my granddaughter got sick and died. My granddaughter was so sad amd some of her friends made fun of her but you do get attached to your pets regardless of the type. Rosa

Fifty-four years, a long union. I'm sure it was blessed with many good memories. My thoughts & prayers are with you. Some years back when I was going thru several losses all at one time (none as devastating as the lost of a spouse), my orchids were indeed a peaceful place for me to be. I hope you have a loving family to be with you during this holiday season.

Sincerest condolences...you were very lucky to have had 54 wonderful years together. It must be a tough time to experience this; I hope your family friends and orchids will bring you peace through this time of mourning.

Thank-you so much for all your kind words, I should have put this on the forum instead of the gallery, that shows how upset I was. He sufferd alot but he is at peace now and that helps me alot. Our two daughters and grandchildren have been a wonderful help to me. Thank-you again. Tricia
