Lisa, We almost lived in your neighborhood. Well, not actually, but not far away. The closest main road to us was Parker Road and it was a subdivision built in a cornfield. At the time, Lowery was still open and Al taught at the Tech School and worked in Base Contracting. It was a long, long time ago. LOL
I saw where you had posted on another site and listed that as your one of your homes.
We were close! I went to Hinkley High School. Everything was a cornfield when we moved out there. I can remember Aurora Mall being brand new. Crazy. It's wall to wall houses now. Even my neighborhood has apts nearby. We used to be in the absolute boonies.
Did you see me on FB? Tag me, I'll be your friend!
Hey Aurora peeps! I lived at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center base when I was a kid. Probably 1988-1992ish. I'm trying to think of the name of my elementary school... Park Lane Elementary? I think that was it. We mostly stuck to the base, though.
Hey we were all close in location, but not in time. One of my sons was born at Fitzsimons. My DH was Air Force but the Army provided our medical care in Denver. Guess we all lived within about 10-15 miles of each other. Small world. After Denver, we lived in Colorado Springs....and talk about two different worlds...I loved Denver and hated Colorado Springs.
Mia, that is just wild, I went past Fitzsimons probably every day of my life! (well, probably not every day, but lots and lots of times!)
We did miss each other by a few years though...I was already an Okie by then. I didn't realize Fitzsimons was still open then. I think they've completely shut it down now.
Carol, you didn't like Colo Springs? I always thought that would be a great place to live. Hmmm.
No, no, no, no, and no! I worked at the Academy and it was fine, I had a very nice home and it was great, but the town was the pits. Everywhere we ever lived while in the military welcomed us with open arms except the people of Colorado Springs. They wanted our money, but not us. The weather was horrible, the crime rate unreal, and I was SO disappointed. I had thought it would be like Denver, only better.....boy was I wrong. It was the only place we ever lived that I just couldn't wait to leave.
Must be destiny, and our paths have crossed once again so it is just meant to be.
Dawn and I claim to be sisters separate at birth. We were both born in the same town then both moved to Oklahoma, both worked in the same type job, yadda, yadda, yadda! We are always answering the same OK gardening msg, with the same answer, at the same time. Well, except her answer is usually better than mine. LOL
And then there is seedmama and owiebrain who seem to do everything on the same day. We are a weird group!
Another Coloradoan checking in here...born in Denver, dropped out of Kindergarten to move to OKC (lol)...lived here (except for 17 yrs in Dallas)...back to stay, most likely. I check out my old house in Denver occasionally...thank you Google Earth!! I have so many memories of that place that include plants: the big lilac by the corner of the house; my dad's iris beds in the side yard; the two crabapple trees in the front; the bed of daisies (where I found out I was allergic to them...my skin sort of peeled off my fingers when I messed with them!); the cherry tree we had, etc., etc...AND I remember ants on the sidewalk, worms in my pocket....the usual "in touch with the earth" stuff!!
