Latin names for plants--I have the wrong vine

I wanted Cypress Vine (Ipomea quamoclit) for my arch we got last weekend. But I ended up with Cardinal Climber(Ipomoea sloteri) thinking I had the right seeds. I didn't know until this morning I went out to see if the seeds had come up yet and I had 1 inch tall plants I didn't recognize so hit the computer for more research..lol.

Do you all know about these two vines? I have only grown the (quamoclit variety). Mine had both white and red flowers on the same vine.

I have noticed the ornamental sweet pototoes are also Ipomea. So yes it sure is confusing not to know all the proper latin names...if only I could remember them!
