I haven't tried any in water. If it makes root within 2 weeks in fast-draining soil, I don't see any reason to bother with the water on this one. I don't own any hormones although that probably wouldn't hurt if you want to use it. Mine are in a lot of sun so the plastic bag would cook them. For most house plants, I make a mix of mostly mulch with composted leaves, a bit of bagged top soil or yard dirt if I don't have a bag. I just went outside to pull one of the newest cuttings so we could all see what it's doing under the soil. When I said yesterday it was firmly rooted, I had no idea it had made this much (many?) roots. Here's a play-by-play of pulling it out. I'm going to pull the one on the left: A LOT of soil is coming up with it: This surprised me Roots are holding onto a lot of soil I shook off a lot of the soil. There's roots along the whole 3 inches that was buried. Back in the pot Hope your efforts are as successful!

i would be interested in seeds or cuttings of Coleus "Finger Paint". I have lots of plants and flowers to get cuttings from or also some seeds. I am looking to expand my coleus collection.

One of the neat things about begonias (and many other plants) is that when they get leggy you can cut them off at the base (and root the pieces if you're as batty as I am!) and new growth will start at ground level. Makes 'em young again. Someone said to me a long time ago, wouldn't it be great if someone could chop us off at the knees and make us young again? I'm ready for that! Oh--the difference between 'dragon wing' and 'angel-wing', (or more accurately 'cane-like' 'cause some in that group don't really have 'angel-wing' leaves, but they all have stems rather like bamboo, with kinda bulges at the nodes,) is that 'dragon wings' are from a different section of the begonia family. They are related to semps, the ones that are used so often for bedding. You'll notice the stems don't have that bulge at the nodes and they're somewhat 'juicier'. Canes are almost woody. There's several sections of begonias, like 'rhozomatous'--they have rhizomes! ta-da! And Rexes--they are rhizomatous with at least one parent being species Rex. Tuberous--don't grow here, but gorgeous where they do. Trailing/scandant--good for baskets and groundcovers. Shrub-like--what the name says, they are bushy. Some have leaves like 'angel wings', but they branch better. Interesting family I think. First one that bit me good!
