We had wind gusts up to 45 mph on Saturday evening. I didn't know it was coming, I had six seed flats blown all over the front yard, and the neighbors yard. It also knocked one of my walls'o'water over on top of a tomato plant. I thought about that, and was glad I didn't have any of mine staked. Sheri

It was pretty windy here in Love County on Tuesday--our highest recorded wind gust was 32 m.p.h. Combine that with an afternoon high of 84 degrees, and 10% humidity, and the plants were feeling a little pain. I'm sure they've perked up overnight, but on Wed. they get to go through it all over again.

I'll watch them closely today and water if they need it. Young, tender vegetation can indeed suffer from windburn in winds this strong. I watered the plants in flats twice--a.m. and p.m., but the ones in the ground shouldn't have been dried out, although they did look a bit beat up by the wind.

And, by the way, with the winds this strong and the dormant vegetation still abundant in many pastures (even though shorter green grass is in many of those same fields), fire danger will be EXTREME today. The farther west you go, the higher the danger, so everybody be careful and watchful.

I really didn't pay much attention to the wind yesterday, and I guess I should have. The plants coped with it quite well, but this morning I woke up with the WORST sinus headache because of so much tree and grass pollen! Today I will take my allergy med.

Lots of wind here on Wednesday. Blew a lot of baby plums off the tree. Otherwise everything weathered it pretty well. I did watch carefully all my little trays of seedlings, had to water them all twice through the day because the wind dried them out so.

We're expecting storms tonight.

I am not liking the wind today. I have been outside most of the morning and it is very windy, but at times I felt almost no wind on the ground but the tree tops sounded like they were blowing away. Weird wind. We are expecting rain tonight but they also said we have the potential for a tornado in "Green Country". I think they mentioned warm wind from the West meeting cool, damp wind from the Gulf. Doesn't sound good.

I've been losing baby plums to every hard wind for about 2 weeks now. The tree in the more exposed location has just about lost them all, and the more protected one has lost about half. Until today, though, I hadn't had any peaches blow off. Well, now the peaches are coming down too. (sigh) Where were these winds last year when the trees were terribly overloaded and I had to hand-thin for days and days and days? I watered my seedlings twice, also, and some of them still had some winburn on the leaf tips and edges, so today I moved them to a part of the yard that is a tiny bit more sheltered.

I've been keeping one eye on the skies and one ear on the weather radio, although I think that if anything happens here in far southcentral OK, it won't be until evening. Out local TV metereologist doesn't seem to think we have a really big chance here--maybe 20%? That's too bad--we could sure use some rain to rehydrate all the dry, wind-beaten plants.

I have the water hose turned on now, running very slowly, to create a wildlife drinking puddle or two for the birds, turtles, butterflies, etc. Usually in the spring we have enough rain that there's little puddles here and there, but this wind and the lack of recent rain has dried them up. The butterflies love the mud puddles.

And, I guess these winds are fueling some fires. I heard one of the western Love County VFDs paged out to go help with a fire west of Ringling in Jefferson County. I guess it is going to be one of those days.

Y'all, I'm watching the noon news and he says the storms will likely stay north of us. And, by the way, our wind is gusting to 30 m.p.h., which is not quite as strong as yesterday's winds.

I'm ready for the wind to stop blowing, but I don't think it is ging to stop any time soon.
