White clover lives through my 7a winter (even this past winter, which was 6b or so). It doesn't die down, stays visible in the grass. Of course, for all I know, there could be varieties with different hardiness. Do you still have the bag it was sold in, or can you get zone information from wherever you bought it? I considered clover as a cover crop in the spring until I could plant grass in the fall and even bought the clover seeds. But then I decided against it. The clover would be filled with bees and my grandchildren might be stung. Their clothes would have more grass stains if they rolled around. As for the bulbs, I doubt the clover would hide the dying bulb foliage. You'd probably want to cut the clover so when you cut the clover, you'd be cutting the bulb foliage. If you don't cut the clover, it could grow to 8 inches. I guess that would be okay but I like to see what I'm stepping on and 8 inches would be too high for me to be comfortable. The bulbs would look better in clusters in planting beds rather than willy nilly out in the lawn. You could plant some perennial beds with bulbs so that emerging perennials hide the dying bulb foliage. The beds would be focal points and there would be some pleasing contrasts between the lawn and the beds.

Yes, clover and anything else that wants to grow in the lawn. Dandelions, violets etc. I do like the look of a flowering lawn, but too many violets and dandelions start to look weedy to me. I try to spend some time removing some every year. I think the grass and the clover do a good job fighting it out and there is a good balance. Since I accept the clover and other plants, I have started to think, why not deliberately try to add flowers to the lawn. Last fall I started planting crocus and chionodoxa into the lawn and they flowered this spring. I really liked that and I hope the chionodoxa will spread. I'm going to try to keep adding more every fall. I would love English Daisies but I tried them one year and they didn't come back. I do have to amend what I said about the violets. There was a white violet all over the yard when we moved here 30 years ago which I'm not fond of. It has large coarse leaves and the white flower is nondescript. Just doesn't appeal to me. I planted a violet called 'Queen Charlotte' that is a violet odorata and boy is it fragrant! It is in my shade bed and has started moving into the lawn. Now that I would never pull out! It is a pretty purple color and the fragrance is lovely. I hope it seeds itself all over the lawn while I keep pulling out the white one.

Is your grass growing? I sowed some strawberry clover (similar to white clover but better adapted to alkaline soils) and it greened up about the same time as the grass. If you used any weed and feed products (since this is the organic lawn forum, that's not likely), those will kill clover. Clover should survive the winter. How long has your grass been green?
