can't see hosta Library auction items?

No matter how and where I look I can't see what is for sale? There are 6 ads at the top of the page. I can see the current price and bidders..but no items..Am I doing something wrong? Do you need to be singed up or a member to see the items possibly?

Actually you probably ARE seeing the items.

If you're looking in the "Other Items" section
Under "Description", it says:
Hello This auction is for the number 1 ad position on the library homepage. These ads will run until the end of August next year. Thanks

The only things for sale at the Auction right now are the Advertisements and the Hostapeodia. Oh, and some beautiful trilliums that Don R is selling. Those are listed under Hostas. No Hosta for sale right now. No seeds either. You can get some seeds, however, at Hosta Works or at M and M Hosta Seed sales.

Oh boy, are you in trouble tarheel! Lol. It's hosted by the hosta library. Here's the link. If you click on "hostas" it'll take you to the section where hostas are being auctioned off. I like the sellers "nc" (Naylor Creek) and "BG" (Bentley Gardens). I'm sure others are good as well, I just haven't bought from them before. Here is a link that might be useful: Hosta Library Auction

Nice haul! NC has very nice Hostas and you usually receive multiples (separate plants). I'm on there occasionally and see your name (I think) and I don't believe I've ever trumped one of your bids! Hasn't been very successful for me, as it seems whatever I want, someone else is willing to pay more than I can afford for the item! Oh well, it's fun trying anyway. There was a classic bidding frenzy about a month ago on one of NCs Hosta 'Laura & Darrell', which began at a reasonable $15. and wound up 45 bids later at $150. Nope, it didn't involve me! Already had the Hosta once, didn't perform well for me. Good luck with your winners!

Just a hint. When bidding at any auction site take note of closing time and don't put in a bid until the very last 30 seconds or so. Bidding early pushes anyone else interested to out bid you. There is no reason to bid early and drive the bid higher. At the very end you know that you have a very good chance of not allowing someone else to outbid you, unless they are very quick and stalking the final bid. You can also see if it a price you want to pay. To me, bidding early is just like bidding against yourself. Good going Koffman, those are nice hosta.

Stuart's auctions have all ended for the moment, but he stated that he will be listing more plants in the coming weeks. What his listing does not mention is that all those gorgeous and rare hostas he is selling are his own hybrids, so you are purchasing originator stock directly from the originator. I've purchased several plants from him over the years, and been very pleased. Root systems are excellent, he ships quickly, and everything I've gotten from him has been a good grower. While his prices may seem a bit high to those who don't usually buy originator stock directly from the hybridizer, in reality he is asking very reasonable prices for very rare plants. Check out Van Gogh at the hosta library, he had one on auction and should have another at some point. This is an great opportunity to acquire some of his best plants, most of which have never been in commercial production, and many of which are only offered for sale once in a great while.

LOL I was too. Then I wondered who would pay 300+ for a hosta. I wanted to see this one!

Wishful thinking. When I saw the ad spaces up for auction, I was hoping there was a hosta auction underway too...

I thought 300+ for advertising on a website was rather high, too.

the price paid for an advert .. is as much a donation to a wonderful website.. as it is a money making prospect ...

frankly .. w/o the library ... many of the hosta sellers would need to spend thousands on revamping their own websites.. dont you think .. its not the brand new ones with all the hype.. its the older ones.. that make the backbone of a sellers inventory.. that you need references for .....

i doubt.. speculating.. that per hour working the site.. bob is not making boat payments.. dont ya think ...

its the same at the national convention auctions.. paying wildly .. somewhat in the name of having a plant.. but also sponsoring a journal issue or two ...
