Hosta library auction
Comments (1)I purchased a Purple Haze Hosta from Bob two weeks ago. I received a wonderful sized plant in excellent condition. It has alread shot out 2 new leaves. I must say that I am very satisfied with my Hosta Library Auction plant....See MoreI could not help myself - Naylor Creek Hosta Library Auction Sale
Comments (27)Melati, I used to plant my separate eyes of the same hosta in separate pots, but then I got too many pots so I wound up combining them. That works only so far. Like, two were supposed to be alike, but it happened that the 2nd eye of Brother Stefan wasn't variegated, it was a solid green leaf and I did not mix up anything. So I thought I had a sport, it turned out to be I suppose a Tissue Culture Failure TCF. It is healthy, it is out of the same TC batch as my Bro Stefan (who I will no longer show as "BS" for reasons known to Jonny...hehehe). I don't actually know what to call that solid green. I might give it away to my two garden neighbors. I combined my pots of Gold Drop, which is a small, and boy are those growing a lot, and one half the pot bloomed early and the other half late....you'd think it was reblooming, but it is a different part of the pot which blooms separately. Hosta can be so interesting. I have one Powder Keg, and it is holding its streaks boldly so I know you will enjoy growing it....See MoreHosta Library Auction splurges!!!!
Comments (17)Let's see... Don't be fooled by that young foliage on First Love - that is a reversed montana Aureomarginata - I'm not sure how it is different from On Stage. This is a Marco Fransen plant (so how come it isn't Paradise something?!) and he doesn't register his. I grow his Paradise Backstage - which is a reversed On Stage - which didn't end up looking like montana Aureomarginata... complex - nonetheless it should be a large plant with large leaves... and will probably take some time to get there as montanas tend to be a little slower than some other hostas... Pathfinder... another of the Patriot clan... they all have the good white and dark green contrast... Olympic Sunrise - a fun one from the Halcyon clan. Olympic is the naming for hostas originated by the Naylor Boyz. I gave Gary a hard time when they took it out of their catalog - he said they just have to make room for the new ones each year. It is different from the rest of the clan... coloring not too different from Paradise Joyce or maybe Katherine Lewis... but left alone the leaves get enough larger that casual observers will not place it in the family. Ah... Heat Wave. It will be lovely - truly beautiful! But... I've been growing tokudamas for at least 20 years... and every few years they produce one they say is a faster, stronger grower. Bright Lights was supposed to replace Tokudama Aureonebulosa because it is a faster grower. I didn't find it to be noticeably faster - but it is easier to sell with that name than with the TA name. So Heat Wave is supposed to be a stronger grower than Bright Lights. With the wider margins, there might be some truth to that. It is a lovely plant - but mine has been tokudama-slow. Great Escape - slow, slow for me... Dream Weaver - slow, slow for me... all worth growing... here is wishing you some patience!...See MoreMore Naylor Creek Hosta Library Auction winnings!
Comments (13)Good order! No worries about the hostas looking ragged, I'm sure you know it's just the time of the year; They're tired. They just want to go to sleep and then EXPLODE out of the ground next Spring for you. I actually don't have a single one you just acquired; Not that I don't like 'em, I simply ran out of Hosta Money before I could get any more. 'Hippodrome' I am also very interested in, I always get excited when favorite hostas are bred with each other. That's very high on my list for next year. Very Nice, Enjoy! Don B....See Moregaryz6ohio
