I have one I'd like to bring in, too. It's small enough to stay as-is, though I'll trim it back so it won't have more leaves than it can handle in the lower indoor light. I figure it needs "bright indirect light" to get through the winter in the house.

Can you take cuttings of torenia? If so, maybe the new starts would spend the winter in semi-dormancy developing new roots, and so wouldn't be as fussy about needing lots of light.

I think these are "true annuals" rather than tender perennials, and that doesn't bode well for overwintering them.

I should admit that I've never actually grown them, though, so I could be all wrong.

I'll search it on Google and see what comes up. It's always fascinating to find out that many plants we thought were annuals, are actually tropical perennials. But on the flip side, some that we think might be tropicals, turn out to be real annuals...

Here's a description from the University of Missouri Extension page. Torenia is one of those tender perennials that are treated as annuals where winters are subfreezing:

Torenia or wishbone flower (Torenia fournieri). Torenia is another tender perennial grown as an annual that does well in semi-shade and moist soil. It makes an excellent ground-cover plant. Flowers are white or blue.

So, I guess I'll stick to my "strategy" of cutting the plant back and gradually moving it into a "cool room with indirect bright light" -- as the garden books always say. :) It will likely be semi-dormant with little growth and no flowers, but hey ... I'll be grateful if it overwinters! The big issue is dry air and the spider mites that go along with that. Trays or saucers filled with moistened pebbles under the pots will hopefully help.

Well, that just shows you can't trust the web; I can't even remember where I found them listed as annuals - I thought it was NCU or MOBOT, but maybe it was a vendor. Sorry for the misinformation.

It's not really the Web we can't trust, just millions of sites on them! lol

If you read it on MOBOT or NCU's site, I'd think they'd be accurate. Vendors, on the other hand, are often in the dark themselves about plants they're not personally experienced with, and are just selling. Not just that, but they likely WANT us to think the plants are annuals, so we'll throw 'em out or let 'em freeze and buy new ones next season, from them.
