What type of internet connection do you have? Regular dial-up? Satellite? DSL? or some type of High-Speed? That's an important factor.

Also, what are your pop-up settings? They should be Medium-High to prevent a lot of the stuff that comes up here.

And lastly, have you done a Disk Clean-up? Go to Accessories, then System Tools, then Disk Clean-Up. It should walk you thru the rest. But maybe you already know this.

I don't want to seem like I'm "talking down" to you so PLEASE don't think that. Just a few of the things that popped in my head. GW is notorious for it's "web-related" problems so Heaven only knows what it might be. Hang in there. We'll help get you thru it.

Some days the speed is ok for me and others really slow. Like you I have no issues elsewhere except for one newspaper site. I have one of the fastest speeds our local internet provider offers. I can run videos and watch TV on the internet with no issues. I asked my nephew about it. He is an IT tech at the local IP provider. He has checked everything on this end including my computer and router and says it has to be a site issue of some sort. Sorry I can't be of any help. Jay

I have all the pop up and security settings on as high as they can be, and go pretty fast. I suggest you go to pcpitstop.com and test the speed of your system. Not knowing what kind of computer you have it is hard to tell. (brand, amount of ram, processor, etc)

But a good defrag, disk clean up, clear out those temporary internet files, could not hurt at all....

It works fine for me, except that after all these years, they have changedtheir systems in some way, and I now receive the ads. It does not move slower for me than anything else.

I cant help you, cant even help my self, but these pop up adds that I get screws my computer up and I dont know what to do other than go back to desktop and start over. this does not happen all the time, but it happens way too often.

if you use ad block plus with firefox it will eliminate a lot website ads and popups. The problem is most likely not your computer or connection but the server that this website is on. If it is having troubles there is nothing you can do to make it faster on your end. I have many times had problems even logging in to post. I dont have clue how the site is set up or how many people are viewing the site at one time but if that number is too great then the site could lag trying fill all the requests.

We have a fast internet connection. It's nice and fast at all times and sites except here.

Now that you mention it, pretty much the only pop-ups I get are here but it seems about only one each time I come around. I haven't gotten one this time yet, though.

I'll give firefox a whirl. I've got it downloaded but I dont' often use it.

We had some kind of bad computer thing going on a while back and scrubbed our computer but maybe it's time to do it again. I'll follow that link and see what needs to be done.

Like pps, I watch movies, download music, visit all kinds of sites with no problem -- no slowness. I wonder why it's just here.

The pop up ads are terrible here. I think this site is slow also and it does the same when I use the computer at my friend's house.

my computer block almost all the pop ups. Maybe that's why it's so slow -- so busy blocking. I'm off to try firefox!

WOW! Well, thanks so much for the Firefox suggestion. This is so much faster than IE. This is the answer but I'm still curious . . . why would IE be so slow and FF not.

I just loaded Firefox and it is a whole bunch faster than my IE. I'm having a few navigation issues, such as I had to re-login to GW twice in order to be able to post a reply. I'll figure it out as I go, though. Just cannot believe the speed, though. Thanks for introducing me to Firefox!

I use firefox almost exclusively, although at work I run FF and IE side by side. Susan, I have to hit the reload button after I log on here before it shows that I have logged in. Not sure why, but it solves my problem.

Ad Block Plus is the best app ever. Make sure you download that when you download Firefox.

Firefox with Adblock Plus is wonderful. I honestly didn't know this site even had ads until I started coming here on my iPad using Safari.

Will check it out. Is it a free app? I notice a lot of the add ins are fee-based. You could spend a good amount of money adding on all these different features, which I guess may be where they make their money since the download is free.

Susan, you have to pay for some of the apps? I am really surprised. The whole point of Firefox is that it is "open source." It's a cooperative thing. Many developers work together.

I don't use anything but Ad Block Plus, and then some of the "skins"...not sure what they call it (personas?), but you can change the display themes. I have a lady bug theme up right now. I know they have butterfly themes too. :)

What is said is that that they request a $5 donation on the majority. Is that new? I just checked the AdBlock Plus and it also "suggests" the $5 donation. Do you have to pay or is it optional?

Susan, that is new, I've never seen it before. However, it looks optional to me.

ABP is their post popular app, so they might be giving people an option to donate to the cause. Actually, even if it wasn't optional, I'd pay a lot more for it! It's worth it's weight in gold! Everytime I browse in IE I grit my teeth.
