Evergreen Flowering Shrub Suggestions
Comments (4)Be sure these are hardy in your zone, but here are some ideas: Indian Hawthorne (any variety with the word "Snow" in the title): nice glossy green foliage with white or pink blooms in spring; Purple Diamond or Purple Pixie Loropetalum (any other varieties will likely be entirely too big): deep purple foliage with red-violet blooms in spring and (occasionally) fall; Encore Azaleas will bloom in fall and spring; one of the new dwarf abelias would probably be evergreen in your zone (Silver Anniversary is one), but check; Jasminum Floridanum is a nice evergreen shrub with golden yellow blooms in mid to late spring; also Shishi Gashira Sasanqua Camellias would likely be hardy where you are. They are slow growing so can be kept at about 2 1/2 feet tall indefinitely with light pruning, have beautiful glossy green leaves and bloom rose pink in the fall. Hope these help!...See MoreVine suggestion--evergreen, containable, and no bees
Comments (7)Try Trachelospermum asiaticum, particularly the variegated version. Hardier than Confederate Jasmine. Has small white blooms but not noticable as they're quite tiny among the white/green variegated leaves, but the scent is heavenly. The white/green/pink colored leaves are beautiful yearround, dainty but thick and glossy, never bothered by pest or disease. Vine can be trained on trellis, pruned as necessary. Never noticed bees around them...I'm leery of bees too. josh...See MoreAny suggestions for this trellis?
Comments (3)I think some of the passion flowers are shade- tolerant. if not, lilac vine might be evergreen in your neck of the woods. but I'd immediate put in a hardy kiwi vine...mine tries to be an evergreen up here in Pennsy, and I'm looking forward to fruit next year myself :)...See Morewell behaved evergreen flowering vine for zone 7?
Comments (12)Limited contact with C. armandii, and agree it may be unmanageable. You are correct that the post limited its height. Do have a good number of L. sempervirens selections. Don't seem really evergreen, but they do bloom, in a Spring burst, and occasional blooms 'till stopped by frost. L. s. 'Magnifica' is my favorite. Another magnificent vine, that, in nature, tends to grow and bloom out of sight at the top of a forest tree is the Cross Vine, Bignonia capreolata. Mine is beautiful but cannot go higher than the 4 foot fence it grows on. A sheet of bloom, briefly, for some. Mine bloomed nicely, then put out a few blooms in these last weeks of Summer. Evergreen? Not to sure....See MoreEmbothrium
