This may need to be a new thread but since you are talking about it I have a question. I do the signage for the Mid-South Hosta Society's AHS National Display Garden at Memephis Botanic Garden. The other day I was reading Warren Pollack's Potpourri article in the AHS journal..volume 40, #2 and he gives the new requirements for minis and then goes on to name several "minis" which are no longer considered minis Towards the end he says...."the AHS Mini Hosta Popularity Poll has been revised to the AHS (Very) Small Hosta Poll"......and then on down he says "Speaking of Very Small Hostas, this a new size category for hostas that have outgrown the AHS Mini Criteria but have the appearance and characteristica of minis" Now...my question...Does anyone know if this has been changed and is set in stone? Or do you know who would know?If so I will change our sign at the gardens to read "Miniature and Very Small Hostas" Someone said I should email George Schmid... Denny? Are you there? Thanks for any input. Mississippi has hostas popping everywhere....3 weeks late but waking up now! Gloria

Great thread, timely for me as I just finished my "mouse trap" raised mini garden yesterday except for filling it with soil. Now to start hunting down plants! I have one small Blue Mouse Ears to go in there for a starter. So far I've found a list of 11 "mice" plus some relatives. Besides BME, there are BME Supreme Cat and Mouse Green Mouse Ears Dancing Mouse Mighty Mouse Mouse Trap Royal Mouse Ears Snow Mouse Frosted Mouse Ears Mouse Tracks Funny Mouse and cousins One Iota, Pure Heart, Itty Bitty and Mighty Moe. Does.anyone have them all? It's going to be a fun treasure hunt searching for them. By the time I find some, I'll have the soil ready! Sandy

I think they might be the same. They may go from mini to small, the way my blue Mouse Ears has done over the years. (2' across with 3"w and 3"long leaves) . I have Dancing Mouse, but then after I read Chris' (Hallson Gardens) info on his Flamenco Mouse, I believe that his will remain smaller with the bit of quilting on the leaves. I just got it this year so I will be watching it. Many of the mice have disappointed me, with the exception of Mighty Mouse, which keeps its variegation and is a vigorous grower. Cat and Mouse just keeps reverting to all green for me. Snow Mouse disappeared. Holy and frosted are trying to hold their own here. -Babka (saturated 5 years ago)

Some people will be able to grow Holy Mouse Ears and others will have trouble. Growing in a pot might be easier as the pH and moisture levels tend to be better and you can feed it as needed. I've had a bunch of Holy Mouse Ears that I purchased shortly after they were released in tissue culture years ago and I've never put them in our catalog because they were never a strong grower for me. Several eyes have reverted back to BME so I remove those as I see them. I can't really recommend it for everyone but it can be pretty and is worth a try so long as you don't have the greatest expectations.

Tonight is going to be the closest to freezing. Sposed to get down to 34 degrees. I hope it doesn't drop lower. The rest of the week, sposed to be in the 50s/40s. My geraniums are still blooming a lot. I am loathe to put them in paper sacks until I get a real freeze warning for overnight. And you may have seen the pic I took Friday of a lone last Easy Does It rose. What a gift from that faithful rosebush under the "Miscellaneous" post. Amazingly, the mini snapdragons and petunias are still in full bloom, even the alyssum has teeny purple flowers. I will HATE to see this go for the 3 months or so of winter!

Hi Esther, Just dropped in after all my listings ended for the year to see whats new in the Forum. I see your ceramic planter as you mentioned earlier with Pure Heart still looking good. Keep up the good work with your collection and I'll look forword to you visiting again in the spring.
