Spin out bags: Finally got around to planting in them

I had ordered these mid-summer but never got around to digging and re-planting some flailing under-tree hostas in the bags; finally got a handful of them done yesterday.

My thoughts:

* The bags are deeper than they are wide; not sure if this will be a problem as hostas mature over time.

* Not as easy to plant as I thought because digging deep holes through *#%!&$*! maple tree roots is *NOT* an easy chore. Some holes were easier to dig than others, but overall not a quick, easy job to get done.

* Looks a little goofy for now with the tops of the bags sticking out, but that will be easily remedied when I do the annual leaf dump (mulch) soon.

Overall, I'm expecting the hostas to do well next year based on board reports of success using the bags. However, I now know that I can order the fabric instead of the pre-made bags - if the test hostas do well in the bags, I'd more likely purchase the bulk fabric and make shallower, wider holes in the future.
