Hosta Disintegration

Hello,

For the first time ever, I've lost 7 Hosta of various varieties this season- no other perrenials though. The first sign is the foilage falls flat to the ground, and then where the bulk of the root ball was is just a depression in the soil almost as if there never was a plant there. At that point I can just pull the leaves right out of the soil. Does anyone know if this is a disease particualr to hosta, an animal, too much rain, etc?

I appreciate your help.

Joe
