black roots, yellow roots, dried up roots

I have a orchid that I am going to change the media tomorrow. Some of the roots look black but green on the ends, others look dried up, or are green then have a crunchy dry spot tgen green again, then if I take my plant right out of thr pit the roots look yellowy whats underneath. My orchid has been like thid a very long time. But it looks so healthy. All the leaves are firm and green, it is growibg a few new roots now that are pointed up around 6 inches. It hasnt flowered in years though. It currently has moss which im changing to the bark. I let it dry between waterings, about 2 weeks. I cant see it being overwatered. I let the water flow through the pot and it doesnt sit in water. How does it root yet dry up the same time?
