Oct 1st,What still looks good

Hi all,it is the end of the growing year and was wondering which hostas are still looking as good now as they were in June.I realize there will be zonal issues so also post your local area.

In zone 5 of Northern Illinois still looking good:

pretty much anything all blue,First Frost,June and Touch of Class,First Mate,Spilt Milk,Brother Stephan,Paradigm,Inniswood,Dick Ward,Stained Glass,Avacado,Summer Breeze,Regal Splendor,Christmas Tree,Guardian Angel and Dark Star.

There are more looking good than I thought that there would be.Phil

My tiaras are going down fast, and Shade Fanfare is fading. All the rest of my hostas are looking remarkably good, just a declining leaf here and there.

Dream Queen looks as good as at any time this summer. Here she is earlier today.

What beautiful pictures. My So Sweet and all my other hostas just look like so much mush now. We had several days of below freezing in the 2nd week of October. That did it for pretty much all my plants. :( So I live vicariously through yours.. keep posting I love your pictures. Alexis

One week ago, my yard was in mode Yellow...the maples...almost all the hostas...and most were erect. There was this feeling of lightness...very nice. However since yesterday I started to cut the hosta leaves and in the process, I met some still vigorous like Blue Jay, First Frost, El Nino, Canadian Blue, Halcyon, Â©anadian Shield, Blue Vision, Paul's Glory, I'm So Blue. June, Touch of Class, Grand Marquee. In my zone 5 where I live, the last month has been the warmest weather ever recorded in Canada. Yesterday for example it was 22 deg.Celcius (76 deg.F)...just great weather. Papou

Manila do best,But the closely related dwarf asian varietys should also be the same. Manila is just easier to find. Plant in full sun,raised mound,DONT ever mulch under the tree. Watering is tricky Tammy. In the cool months or summer fogs-as little as possible. When we get those streaks of warm sunny to hot summer days-pour it on! They can take about 32 with no real damage(leaves wont look so glossy) but under that-cover! And no potted mango does as well as one in ground. But that's the balance,once it's in ground-no going back. If a big freeze comes along,it will only do as well as you protect it and no more. Yet,Tammy,that summer in ground foliage looks soooo good-lol.

TGIF!! Another week from hell but now it's over :0) QOD: Saturday running some errands, laundry and some other stuff around the house. Sunday meeting up with DeeMarie at the Oktoberfest!!! Dee, good message about the Halloween candy. I was in the store last night and thought I better get started. Last year I gave out bags of pretzels. I usually buy candy I am not crazy about. If I buy something I like I have to hide it, otherwise it would never make it until Halloween and even then no guarantee it will get given away. Marci, take care of yourself and enjoy that three day weekend. The pumpkin patch sounds like fun. You will like Kohl's - I can usually find what I am looking for there. Zig - glad to see ya! Pretty much all of mine still look very good except 'Gunsmoke' and one of my 'August Moons'
is looking tired!!! Amazing, really!!

Blue ivory, June, May, Karin, almost all my minis, 2 out of 3 Loyalist, Majesty and Heatwave all look awesome! One thing is a bit strange though while everything is supposed to be going dormant Cathedral Windows has SPROUTED a NEW eye and the leaves are getting decent size! Will this be a problem for this plant? We have already had a couple of frosts already.

I know its oct 3 but I wasn't going to visit the garden in the pouring rain on oct 1. so today, its stopped raining and surprisingly, despite some chilly mornings and 3days of cold rain, most everything is holding up well. Oh, they look tired, their color is fading and a few have flopped to the ground. Wait, that just might be a description of me right now after such a busy summer season!

I live north of the twin cities.

Gardening therapy is the best therapy for me :-)

Hi Phil,
Everything here is still hanging in there.
Other than slug damage it's been perfect.
Although with getting more nights in the 40's it will decline soon.

Mine are mostly hanging in too, except for the tiaras, as someone already mentioned. Most are just starting to brown on the outer leaves and some look as good as they did in May!
I think Summer Breeze in impressing me the most, it is still beautiful!

Hi Phil, my greens and blues still look good. The gold and yellows are the ones going down hill. They are getting the browning. Hey my little daylily has a new home down south and is doing just great. Thanks again!

Having dodged frost, even way up north here, and if you overlook the fact that, at least in the great lakes region, this has been the 'year of the slugs', most of our several hundred variety of hosta are still enjoyably viewable. I'd attach a few pix, but dunno how to do that here yet . . .
