Susan, You're welcome. I've protected plants by covering them up with sheets, blankets, etc. in past years and it works pretty good as long as the temps don't go to far below freezing. I hope you can successfully cover up yours and keep them going a while longer. I always put my winter tomatoes (the ones I plant in pots in February) on the concrete with the south-facing wall of the garage right behind them and I do think the heat helps them grow and mature tomatoes more quickly. I also think the radiant heat might help them a little at night, although I always either cover them up with blankets or drag them into the garage on cold nights. When you're trying to either keep fall tomatoes going late or get spring tomatoes going early, you have to use every trick in the book! Don't forget that often the last green tomatoes will ripen up indoors on a counter when you absolutely must pick them because the temps are going so low that covering them up won't help. I've had ripe tomatoes very late into December from those last ones coloring up indoors over time. And, yes, if you lug a couple of those 5-gallon buckets indoors, it is likely the tomatoes will continue to ripen in a sunny south window. They most likely will ripen more slowly and they may not have the same flavor as a summer tomato, but they'll still taste better than grocery store tomatoes. If you want to grow indoor tomatoes in a future year either early in spring, or late in fall, or throughout the winter, three that are absolutely perfect for indoor tomatoes are Red Robin, Yellow Canary and Orange Pixie. They can be grown in surprisingly small pots (they say as small as 4" or 8" pots for Red Robin, but I wouldn't go smaller than 1 or 2 gallons, I think, for the best yields). All 3 varieties produce a high yield for such small plants and the flavor of all three is surprisingly good---not the best tomatoes you'll ever have, but not bad, especially for indoor tomatoes. Both Red Robin and Yellow Canary get about 8-12" tall in pots (though about 6" taller than that in the ground in the summer time) and Orange Pixie gets a bit taller--maybe 15-18" in a pot indoors and sometimes a little taller in the ground in the summertime. When I have grown them, they all three had as much or more fruit than foliage. A couple of years ago I grew these three varieties as a 'border' around a bed of larger tomato plants.....just one more way of squeezing a few more tomatoes out of one bed. Dawn

I've always loved the Cella's too, light or dark, I don't care, and they're about the cheapest you can buy. I thought I'd forego them this year, but this thread made my mouth water. Had to go to WalMart yesterday so I thought I'd pick up a box, but couldn't find the Cella's! I didn't buy the off brand, but will look around for the real thing. I did see some that were blueberry though. I've never seen those before. Not a blueberry lover, I got a couple of boxes for my son. Years ago I worked with a gal whose aunt made homemade chocolate covered brandied cherries. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven!!!

I know Emma. It can get so confusing, and even I sometimes am like, well how much detergent do I use?! This bottle doesn't seem to have "turbo' on it, but it is HE. Even when I overdosed that load, I didn't have a suds mess up and out the drain pipe. Promising! As for how much to dose on a new bottle, vs an old bottle, what I do is use the dosing lines that are on 'that' cap, from 'that' bottle. Sometimes the caps change sizes, so your line 1 can now be a line 2 used to be. Make sense? I'm liking this formula so far. I also like the cap a lot. I've had a translucent Tide cap that is impossible to see the lines because the detergent sticks to the cap. This one, I think from the plastic slickness, coupled with the new thiner formula makes that problem go away--to date. Things might muck up in the future, but right now, I'm a happy camper with this formula. I find it cleans a little better than the last time I had a jug of this. I got it on Amazon from the official Tide section. It had a $3 digital coupon on it, and I bought it to have a back up in case a different F&G liquid I like changes their formula to something that doesn't work well for us. I've been skunked too many times now with all these "new and improved' innovations. I plan ahead when I can. Just try to find the amount of detergent that gets your laundry clean and also doesn't suds out your drainpipe.

boba1, Nice to see all the talk about FL Speed Queens these last several months, Speed Queen was wise to bring it back and not discontinue it as it's a quality machine. Regarding your question...The Speed Queen is sitting packed up in it's original box in the cellar for the last three years as the Bosch is still running as new after the bearing replacement. I have no inclination to sell it. Edit: Just noticed this was exactly three years to the date I originally posted this thread, time flies. Jeff
