What to do with soil in diseased berry patch?

paulyn

This year my berry plants all have developed brown leaves and stems, and some of the fruit is shriveled and dry. I have marionberries, several kinds of raspberries, youngberries, jostaberries, and a couple of blackberries whose names I've long forgotten. There is no rust on the leaves. They look like they need water, but they don't. All are in raised beds with plenty of ammendments. Also, some of the new growth is looking dry.

Do I need to pull this soil out of the beds and start over?

What plants will not be affected by this disease?

Are my berry-growing days over? (I have berries interspersed throughout my entire garden.)

Yesterday I saw acres of diseased berries in the Woodburn area that looked just like mine. Also, I saw the same thing in a comml berry field in LaCenter, Wa. What's happening?

Your voices of experience have always helped me before.

Thanks, Lyn
