New to gardening and need some advice..

Hi everyone!

I've been reading the board for several months now trying to figure out what I want to do with my flower bed (front of house - faces south).

I've kind of narrowed it down to things I like but now I need advice on if what I've picked out is going to work.

Right now we have something planted but I have no idea what it is as (put in by the builder). There are two different types of plants/shrubs I like the looks of so I took a piece of each to TLC to see if they could tell me what they were. They told me the larger one (about 3' tall now) is a Yaupon holly which is native to Texas. They guessed that the other bush is a type of Boxwood shrub.

I've linked a picture of the front of our house to give you a visual. http://www.okcdachshunds.com/up/images/8cmuvw1hpcbpy0u5mou.jpg

I've been looking through the galleries here and found a couple that I really like and would like to model from. Whoever these pictures belong to you did an amazing job! :)

I realize I don't have tons of space but if I could do a smaller scaled down type of that that would be great.

Now that I've gotten the basic out of the way.

I really want something tall (not huge) that will stay slender at the edge of the house. TLC recommended a Blue Arrow Juniper which I'm not overly excited about. What are my other options?

I really like the following and if possible would love to use them.

Stonecrop

Hardy Ice Plant

Autumn Sage

Russian Sage

Hosta

Silver Lace Vine

Dusty Miller

Lantana

Yarrow

Tall Phlox

Chameelon Plant

Verbena

Daylily

Zinnias

Gazania Daisy

Cannas

Cosmos

Four O'Clocks

Malva Zebrina

Guara

Blanket Flower

Globe Amaranth

Chrysanthemums

Hibiscus

Now, I have NO idea what is being used in the pictures above. The list is by no means a 'must' be used but if I could fill in the front with annuals or something. I don't know.

This is totally new and I've done tons of research and sometimes think I walk away feeling more confused then when I started. If you can provide me with some advice and/or opinions I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!

-Ashley :)
