Usually when people find luna moth caterpillars, it's because they're through eating leaves and are traveling to find a place to make their cocoon. They can and do make it in a variety of places. Sometimes they stay in the tree whose leaves they'd been eating and make it on one of the branches. Sometimes they wrap up in leaves, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they make it on the ground or in a nearby tree. Regardless, at this point, it's most likely to overwinter in Missouri. Just keep it protected. I don't keep mine in air tight containers, because my common sense tells me that would encourage excessive moisture and the resulting mold. A plastic container needs some sticks or other rougher objects inside it that the moth can climb onto when it emerges - plastic is slippery, and the newly emerged moth would not likely form properly, since they need to hang to bring the fluids to the wings to expand them. Mine are in cages that are PVC frames with mesh coverings that are outside on my front porch - it's best to keep them outside so the moth will be more likely to emerge when spring occurs. The inside of a heated house is too warm, the moth will probably emerge too early there. It should be protected from critters that might eat it. Do you remember if this caterpillar had a yellow line along its side? If it didn't, it would be a polyphemus moth, also a big beauty. Sherry

You can google indoor water gardens and get some ideas. I would stick to native bog/marginal plants like pitcher plants, ferns, cattails, Louisiana irises (or other types), maybe native violets, rather than African. You can also have a few water lilies in there. Good luck! It sounds like a fun project and a progressive school! A few "tropical" plants wouldn't look too bad, I wouldn't think. Like some papyrus, cannas, elephant ears or philodendrons. Just for filler in the back part. You need some height. You could also put some bamboos or sedge in some pots. I'm sorry that you're granddaughter's teacher sometimes calls her the wrong name. I'm a third grade teacher. I sometimes call students the wrong name, too. It's certainly not because I don't care or because I don't take the time to learn the students' names. Even when there aren't other students with the same or similar names in the class, I have taught hundreds of students in the past. I may be confusing their name with another name. I'm the youngest child in my family of five siblings. My mom frequently called me the wrong name and she's the one who named me! Teachers are, after all, human and we sometimes make mistakes. I am frequently surprised when I visit this forum that people are reluctant to talk to the teacher when there's a problem. It seems like teachers get a bad rap without just cause. (However, in the case of the original poster, I believe the teacher is erring too much on the side of caution.)

On the screen of your PC, usually the 4th line from the top, contains the URL (universal resource lovator) of the screen you are currently viewing. It will start with Address followed by http://forums.gardenweb.com and then a whole bunch of letters and numbers.
Wipe across it with your mouse pointer or just click on it until the entire block reverses color (called highlighting), that is white letters on blue background. Now comes the copying part. You press Ctrl C, (pressing and holding down the CTRL key in the lower left hand of your keyboard) followed by pressing the letter C on your keyboard. This will store the highlighted text of the URL from above in a temporary storage location.
Now back to your message window. With your mouse pointer click on the box labelled Optional Link URL: Nothing much will be happening, until you press the Ctrl V, (pressing and holding down the CTRL key in the lower left hand of your keyboard)followed by the letter V. You will now have successfully copied the URL. Just remember C stands for copy and V for insert.
In the next box below, the one labelled Name of the Link: You type the text you want to show at the bottom of your message, like Aunt Susan's favorite Hosta Site.
Then press Preview message, followed by Submit message and you are done.
