Overall we had a nice day. Warmed slowly this morning. Then around two had the wind pick up and I thought the cool front had arrived. The clouds moved in and then in an hour it was clear and it warmed fast. Hit 56. I got one more corner of the greenhouse set in concrete. Once I get the other two set things should go a lot faster. Was so nice I worked till dark and skipped a Valentines meal. With this winter when you can work outside you had better do it. Had a salad tonight from the greens I cut yesterday that are in the cold frame. Nothing like good fresh greens in the winter. Jay

BITE YOUR TONGUE.....OR YOUR PECKING FINGER!!!! And it's only supposed to be a light dusting...and then again on Thursday....but today was beautiful, wasn't it? I stepped out on the front deck tonite and I even saw stars instead of clouds!!!

I took advantage of the sunshine this afternoon and hardened off some cabbage and lettuce I've started. They're going in the hay-walled cold frame we're trying. Borrowed Ilene's idea and got used shower doors at Habitat for Humanity in Norman for $5 for the top. May get some tomato & peppers started this long weekend too.

Hope your muscles aren't too sore tomorrow, Spademilllane! But if so, it'll still feel good to have started on the garden!

Lucky you! I wish I could have done anything useful at all outside.

I did wade through snow and puddles of water and mud to feed/water the chickens and wild birds and deer, but that was all I could do outside. Oh, and I waded through mud, muck, water and snow to walk down the hill to the mailbox and back again....and (as it often is when we tell these stories after the fact) it was bitterly cold and uphill both ways....

You skipped a Valentine's Meal? Oh, we need to take your temperature and make sure you haven't contracted gardening fever or greenhouse fever or something.

I bet the salad was yummy. Nothing tastes as great as home-grown.

You and Robert keep that snow up north tomorrow because we don't need any more here. The ground has been wet so long that the ducks don't even have to stay in the pond---at this point they can swim downhill from the pond to the swamp and never touch land.

I did notice tonight that the sunlight is lingering longer in the evenings which gives me hope that spring really is on its way.

Unlike Robert, I spend the day mostly inside, at a conference. But I took my bike with me, and went for a ride on the Katy Trail afterwards. Got 15 miles in.

Sure was nice.

Yeah, yeasterday was great! It took months for my husband and I to dig 6 post holes and get a fence up, two years ago. Dug three yesterday by myself. Of course, 57 degrees versus 100 and soft, water logged soil helped. I agree with the exhaustion part. Oh, but it feels good to get something done outside. Who wants to exercise on a machine, when they can work in the yard outside? Did I actually say that about post holes!?*

I am tempted to start digging new beds today, but the wind is really biting. My hubby was smart and we had steak for a Valentine's brunch today. Guess he knows better than to make me chose between a pretty gardening day and him. Of course, steak & eggs benedict with champagne for breakfast at his favorite place, made it an easy decision for him. LOL, Salads for dinner.

We're supposed to have Valentine's meals?? Now you tell me...

I got Jerreth 5 blueberry bushes for Valentine's day! For her, that's better than chocolate or most anything else. We're going to put them out where we can do drip irrigation on them.

Diane, We don't do the big romantic meal either, although we did it for a few years when we were much younger.

George, What a perfect gift! I always get plants for Valentine's Day too....and I love that because they last for years and years. Tim did buy me cut-flower type roses the first few years until I convinced him I'd really rather have living plants than soon-to-be-dead cut flowers.

George...blueberry bushes over chocolate?? Hmmm...it's a close race in my mind (especially if it's chocolate with hazelnuts), but blueberry bushes definitely last longer!! Jerreth must be very excited to have them :)
And yes; I still intend to get some of your Tarahumara bean seeds...I think about mailing you usually when I'm at work (today) or late at night...I must write myself a note to get that accomplished!
