I am interested. I just keep digging up all the stuff around here that is growing like gangbusters so I could probably custom dig. The only mentioned date that I might be available for is July 28th. Afternoon times are best for me.

Middle of the summer is a bad time for transplanting because it is hot and dry. I would prefer fall when it is more successful to dig and transplant, though I suppose irises are usually done in early August.

I will have stuff to divide this fall but would like to wait til it's cooler and wetter. It would be fun to meet other gardeners here.

I was thinking of summer for the potluck portion of the event but could wait until fall but we might get wet.

I was thinking of having DH fry a turkey and having everyone bring sides. If you haven't had fried turkey it is fabulous and goes well with the same things as fried chicken. Potato salad, corn on the cob, fresh fruit etc.

We have a lot of seating, some under cover and a fire bowl too.

Am I buying a turkey???

Hi buyorsell ~ I would love to come , but I will be in Portland every weekend in July but yours! We're doing lots of wedding stuff. Bridal shower the 7th weekend, and wedding the 14th weekend.

Bummer too, I've always wanted to try turkey like that! We always smoke ours. :o(

I'm so sorry i won't be able to make the potluck. My daughter and grandson will be visiting from Oklahoma that weekend, but I sure hope I will be able to get to the swap in the fall. I have lots of plants to offer.

We're in Oregon City and would love to meet gardeners. We're new to this whole plant thing :-) Have no plants to swap but all ears. Can bring a good side dish or 2. Old Farmer's Almanac says September and October will be warmer and wetter than usual here so hoping they're right and fall is good transplant weather. Right now we're in drought, hardly any rainfall, clouds but no rain, just a tiny bit of mist every few days, less than caterpillar spit. Can already see a lot of trees suffering drought stress around Portland.

Labor Day weekend and later in September works well for me (so far). Forecast is: very hot by 4th of July.

Like Barbe, I'm having a visit from my daughter and grandson that weekend, from San Francisco. Otherwise I would like to come.

Hi Buyorsell888, I would love to see your garden but will be in Minnesota the week-end of July 28. I would love to see all those clematis blooming. Labor week-end we will be camping and will be on vacation in Montana most of September. I don't think I will make it this year. Karen

Sept. 15 could work out for me. I'm in peak daylily bloom now but by then many will have quit and I could divide some.

I just think it would be fun to meet other local gardeners. None of my friends or family locally are into gardening much. I always have extra plants.

Our climate is so unique it is great to have this forum and since we all like to talk about gardening online, I'm sure we'd like to talk about gardening in person too. ;)

I've belonged to an online pond forum for many years and have met many members in person and it is such fun. I've traveled up to Vancouver BC twice for get togethers and hosted one here last summer. Met others on vacations around the US too. Thought folks on this forum might enjoy a get together too.

Shoot. A swap in Oregon that I could actually make and it is on the same day that my sister is hosting a swap in Washington. Guess I'll have to miss this one. Shoot.

Grrr. That's my first wedding anniversary (I don't suppose I could convince my hubbie that a plant swap is an appropriate way to spend it???). :)

It seems that no matter what date I suggest very few could make any of them....July 28 is out for sure. Sorry for any confusion.

buyorsell--I have a suggestion. Post a date around the first part of Oct.(say Oct. 6) That way people have enough time to plan to come to it. Just post it and if some can't come then so be it. You can't please all the people all the time. By the way I live in SE Portland. Are you anywhere near?

I'm thinking October is going to be too wet for a barbecue. I was thinking more of a backyard barbecue/potluck/social event than formal plant swap. My house is small and cannot hold a bunch of people if it rains.

Perhaps I should give up for this year and post next year in March to give people a chance to plan for a July or August date.
