mine are biennial. ... moving them would be a waste of time ... you gather up spent flowers.. and seed them into the area where you want them.. and let them do the work ... regarding mine.. the ones that flowered this year.. will be dead next year .... those that came up from this seasons seed .. will flower next year and die ... the definition of biennial ... maybe its a zonal thing???? make sure before you do a lot of work.. or make sure you are taking the babes.. not the mature ones .... ken

Italian parsley gets a lot bigger than most people suspect! Unless I tied mine up tightly, after I dug it up, it probably wouldn't fit into my oven! Even then, it would be a tight squeeze. Try some of these ideas. Remember that none of these recipes is suitable for a pregnant woman (parsley can and does induce abortion or foetal abnormalities if consumed in medicinal doses - the doses need to be large, but who wants to take the risk?). Parsley Pesto 1 large bunch Italian parsley leaves 1-2 cloves garlic 2 tablespoons toasted pine nuts or slivered almonds 2 tablespoons lemon juice 2 tablespoons olive oil Put all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth. Delicious served with chicken or fish. Tabouleh 3/4 cup bulghur (cracked wheat), medium or fine 3/4 cup water 2 large bunches parsley large bunch mint 4 green onions juice of 2 lemons 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1/4 cup olive oil 2 large, ripe tomatoes Place cracked wheat and water in a large bowl and set aside to soak for one hour. Stem off the parsley, mint and onions, wash thoroughly and chop very fine. Squeeze cracked wheat between the hands to remove excess water. Return to the bowl and add the greens. Add lemon juice, salt and olive oil, adjusting the amounts to your liking. Dice one tomato and add it to the salad. Slice the second tomato to use in decorating the dish. Serve on a bed of lettuce. Parsley Soup 125g fresh chopped parsley, stems included 30g flour 45g butter 1 onion 1 stalk of celery 1 litre stock pinch nutmeg 1/2 bay leaf Chop parsley, including stems. Melt butter, cook onion and celery for a few minutes. Sprinkle in flour and mix well. Pour on stock and bring slowly to the boil blending smoothly, add parsley, salt, pepper, nutmeg and bay leaf. Simmer for 25 minutes. Serve as it is, or put through a blender. Parsley Jelly 100g parsley, chopped 1 cup apple, skins and cores included 3 tablespoons lemon juice 1 teaspoon grated lemon rind 3 cups water sugar Place all ingredients except sugar into a saucepan and bring to the boil, simmer for 30 minutes. Strain through a jelly bag overnight. Next day, measure the juice and return to the saucepan. Add 3/4 cup sugar for every cup of water. Then boil rapidly to setting point. Spoon into hot sterilised jars, cover until cool, then seal.

You can spray it with Neem Oil and Safer 3-1 Insecticidal soap, at least that is what I do. You can also utilize beneficial insects; I do that, too. It is just a leafhopper and there are many types and colors of them out there. http://www.planetnatural.com/product-category/natural-pest-control/beneficial-insects/ is where I go, not a shill for the company. I have had good success with the beneficial insects, personally. Unless you get a massive infestation, I would thin that your plants will do okay, perhaps not a finalist for best looking. I have maybe 10 pepper plants and 4 or 5 eggplants that have parts of leaves eaten off and they all bear fruit. If you notice any moths hovering in the area, take note of the color. That may help you to identify what type of caterpillar you have. I had some white with three blacks spots and brown ones with orange on the wings. I used the trichogramma wasps for 4 weeks straight and barely notice any of the moths or the damage they are noted for as caterpillars. Ladybugs will eat them and aphids but you need to wait several weeks after the Neem Oil is used and there needs to be enough of them otherwise they fly away to a more plentiful buffet. If it is just minor amounts of leaves, try the Neem Oil and Safer 3-1. Dilute as recommended and spray every 4-5 days and after rain. Try to get tops and bottoms of the leaves as much as possible. Hope it all works out for you.

OakIris, I have plants coming out the kazoo this year and was planning to pot some of them up to bring to the swap after I got home from my trip, but since I'll be out of town until after the swap this time, that won't be happening. But, I did just look and in 2012 I actually took the time to collect some seed, and I'll do my best to remember to send a little packet of them along with Barb for you. When you get them I need to warn you that most of what you see in the baggie will be chaff! The actual seeds are the hard little black things!!! When I collected them there were a whole lot of them that had gone to seed, so I just cut the whole plants off at the bottom and stuck them in a bag and left them sit to dry completely for a month or two. When I got around to it I just SHOOK the bag really well, and since everything was SO dry, a lot of "plant debris" came off along with the seeds! What I recommend you do with them is to wait till late summer or early fall, then "rough up" the soil in a couple small places, take a BIG pinch of "seeds" (the stuff in the baggie!) and scatter it in each of the places you've "roughed up." Then rub your hand over the soil where you scattered the seeds to "mix them in" just a little bit, and then clearly mark where you planted them 'cause they kind of look like weeds when they first come up and otherwise you might decide to pull them out when you see them and then think the seed I gave you was no good!!! ;-) Depending on the weather, some of them will probably come up before winter gets really cold, and then more will come up in spring. Any that come up will bloom next summer! And once you get a couple that bloom--you'll never get rid of them again! In this case, I don't consider that to be a bad thing! When they start to drop seeds you can either scatter some of it in other places where you want them--or you can just let them do their own thing and they'll wind up coming up all over the place anyway in a couple years! After any individual plant blooms it's gonna look REALLY ratty, and there's no way to make it look "good" again, so once you know for sure they've dropped some seed, I recommend just pulling the "old" plants out (I cut them off at the top of the soil, leaving the roots in the soil to decompose!). Since, once they drop seed, you'll ALWAYS have more, there's no need to try to "save" the old ones. If you have any other questions, I might not be back to answer them till after I get home after my trip. I'm crazy busy trying to get ready to go, and now something "legal" came up that's gonna take a bunch of the time I already don't have!
