Dawn: Pollarding Redtwig dogwoods

Dawn (or anyone else who might know),

Do you have any experience or have you read anyhting about pollarding redtwig dogwoods? I know they are commonly coppiced, but i'd like to try and create a row of pollarded dogwoods. Information on the internet seems to be scant. I'm going to attempt to train them to a single stem, but i'm worried that when i remove the terminal bud, they will simply sucker from the base and not sprout from the tip as a typical pollarded tree would. I'm sure there would be the normal maintenance of removing suckers as you would with a crapemyrtle, but i'm worried that it would only sucker...any thoughts?
