Montauk Daisies

I'm hoping for some suggestions on a replacement for my Montauk daisy. Every year I've threatened this plant with the compost heap if it didn't shape up & every year it defies me. It simply will not stand up straight when in bloom. I prune it in the fall. I prune it again in the spring. I reprune about the end of June. Still, come late September/early October it flops open from the center showing its ugly brown legs. So, I shovel pruned it last weekend.

Now, I've got a rather significant sized hole in the border. The daisy grew to be about 4' square by bloom time no matter how hard or how often I pruned.

What might I plant in its spot that would bloom around the same time as the Montauk daisy? It's immediate neighbors are caryopteris, summer blooming fragrant azaleas, a large mixed clumb of purple & white coneflowers, & anchoring the bed is a Harry Lauder's Walking Stick.

Thanks for suggestions!
