okaaay...I guess its up to me. I would say the name of this hosta is "Sad and Pathetic" and shouldnt have been sold in the first place.

it is a potbound .... late august ... extremely stressed plant...

that ought to explode next season ... plant it ...

the problem with the ID is that the edges vary all across the plant ..... something tells me i should know it.. but every leaf is different ... on the left is a leaf with a 1 inch margin ... on the right 1/4 .... so which is true .. some margins yellow.. some white ...

i dont care about the burn .... etc ..

you might have to wait for a pic late next spring.... unless one of the ID gurus can give you a name ...

'something' aureomarginata ... but i cant put my finger on the 'something' part .... it was just in one of the other ID questions a week or two back ... not montana.. not undulata ...

I know the poor thing has been abused and neglected, but it will be fine. By next spring, it won't remember being potbound(I hope!).
It will be interesting to see how it looks after a year or two in the ground.

Starina, your plant will be beautiful next year. Several years back I bought the saddest looking little venusta for $2 at a local variety store on November 1 and planted it here in Minnesota. It was absolutely gorgeous the next spring and every year since. Gratitude, I think.

Don't know what it is Starina,but everyone is right. Next year,you won't even know how it looked this year! I like saving plants from a fate worse than death. It gives you a challenge to see if it will be a good one! I saved a pathetic little center-variegated Undulata from a check out counter at K-Mart one year,and it has turned out very nice this year! So hang in there,it will be beautiful next year! Phil

no.. not vent aur .... VA is rounder ... more hand shaped..

yours is longer .... the long thin tip .....more like the fort aur ... aka golden crown ... see info below ...

Starina's home for abused hostas.

Firstly, I think there are 2 different plants in that pot.

One is darker green with a narrow white margin (Francee I think) the other has more medium green leaves, with the chartreuse edges and I might place a small bet that it is a very immature Wide Brim.

Just my guesses though, post photos in the spring and we may be able to give better opinions!

I think Wide Brim may be correct. I guess I'll figure it out with time.

When I had Wide Brim several years ago it didn't look anything like that at all. The leaves were much broader, even the more juvenal ones. Keep taking photos, and also note the time and color of the flowers. Counting vein pairs sometimes helps. Your photo doesn't look I anything that I have, so I'm not really much help. Sorry.
