My Seabright Gardens order arrived today!

Fujibotan, Katherine Lewis, and On Stage arrived cross country from Oregon today in pristine and healthy condition with multiple divisions. They were pleased to hear that Flower-Frenzy posted photos of their gardens on the forum. You won't be disappointed if you place an order with them.

Those look good, DD. That was pretty fast, too!

You're going to like 'On Stage'...at least I really do. It's the brightest one I have in my garden.

My MZ order arrived today!

The main problem we have had with MZ has been bulbs labeled wrongly...but oh what bulbs they be! I got mine planted today. Most were fine but the Limona had a rotten bud under a few layers, Had to cut it away and clean it out, as well as a small rotten spot there on the bottom plate. I lost two babies that were just getting going when I cut out the rotten places, but what is left of the bulb looks just fine now. I probably lost 3 layers off it and it is still huge!

7-8 years ago when I was trying to determine who I would buy from, I placed small orders with 8 diffenent sellers. 4 of those sellers I was pleased with, but by far, Moon sent me the biggest and healthiest plants. If you think he is generous with his mail order, try a visit to his garden. Tom

Brenda ~ I always plant late arriving irses in pots and overwinter in the house. This year I have MANY! I also got the 2 collections from Botanus and 4 from Vesey's. I usually purchase my irses from Trail's End or Chuck and have many from both of them that arrived in August. Ann just sent me 5 I was looking for as a gift for the puppy they adopted from my pack, I'm assuming....;). I much prefer fresh dug early to shriveled up late. =:> My main concern was the warm weather and the tulips. We are having a very late summer here. :/ I received these ones from McFayden's Visiting Royalty Raven Girl Exclusivity Rio Rojo Vesey's- 2 Rustler, Pagan Dance and Ziggy. :) Wonder what is up with McFayden's?

Very nice looking plants, indeed!

I got On Stage last year but it's in too much sun--the light part is going parchment--so I will have to move it. A neighbor has a cluster of three mature ones and that's what inspired me to get it.

And, you are going to love Fujibotan for more reasons than one. It is known for its double flowers, which are not fragrant. However, it is also a very pretty plant. I've really enjoyed having it in my garden. No problems with slugs at all. The flower scapes are extremely tall, and I had to clip them together like a teepee, and this being their first year blooming for me, I was excited to see they really do have doubled flowers. In fact, some of the first blooms looked to be TRIPLE. But, let's just be happy with the pale lavender double flowers. And 5 nice scapes.

On Stage is always a favorite, beautiful leaf pattern, and the color is fantastic.....my favorite kind of variegation.

I haven't had my 'Fujibotan' send up any scapes yet (got it late last year) and I don't see any coming this season, either. I'm optomistic I'll see some next Summer. Great foliage, though. Nice looker that belongs in a good spot to show it off, even bloomless.

You should get scapes next year, for sure, Don and I wouldn't give up on it this year. Mine was new late last summer, too, and it has three scapes...I was holding my breath about the flowers opening...have read that can be a problem with Fujibotan--the flowers not opening....but the first ones are slowly but surely opening up. (It's planted where it gets a lot of high, filtered light from early am to past noon.)

One more thing about Fujibotan, Donna. She's a late riser in the spring...IIRC, she was the very last to show herself this spring but then the snow piled over her and our very reluctant spring might have had something to do with that.

Moc, your photos of Fujibotan inspired me to purchase her, and if she's a late riser, so be it, the other hostas are only too willing to take up the slack earlier in the season.

I'm glad you're all having success growing 'On Stage'. You have all inspired me, with the help of my son (and a new garden spade), to remove, replace and redesign my little community garden - something I swore I would never do. Like all of you, I can't wait to see the results next year.

Well, I think your garden area looks very, very good, Donna. And your hosta, individually, look healthy and happy. You have some excellent specimens.

Ci Lantro, I was out in the garden today, and noticed, only about an inch higher than the crowns, scapes coming up on three out of the four eyes on 'Fujibotan'. : )
I'll post pics whenever they're ready. (Assuming they open).
