I just love the blossoms on these scapes--hot pink and deep purple--I forget the name--so hopefully, ken

remembers without having to run to the back of his gardens! :o) Sorry, ken! 'H. something var. something'--maybe??

This bloom is slit (end to end) and laid our flat! Pretty neat, huh!!

Oh, swoon! ... Hosta paradise, with commentary and lessons. It's like a dream. Thanks for sharing some of the beauty and fun with us.

'am surprised you didnt leave at dawn ... like the blues brothers .. whats this 11am all about.. lol.. its like you waited until the hottest time of day ... to go walk in greenhouses ...' Ken I was up at dawn, but I was plotting you see. Plus I've worked in greenhouses for several years, the heat doesn't really phase me anymore especially when there are plants in them that I want. I am an auditor for an insurance company. What this means is my office is my car. So I was up at dawn removing my mobile office from the car under the cover of darkness. See my husband knows that the trunk of my car is only empty for dirt or new hostas. Seeing as I just bought a ton of dirt, I knew he'd be skeptical. The next step was waiting for him to leave the house lol. He left around 10:58 to run errands and I skulked out at 11 with an empty trunk and a slightly maddened gleam in my eye as the prospects of what I might be able to find at Bridgewood. I keep a hosta mad money plant stash, each week I squirrel away money to have a few spring fever plant purchases. When it stops raining (if it ever does) I'll post a separate link with my Hallson's order. My poor husband only knows about Hallson's, he has yet to discover my Bridgewood haul. Maybe it shouldn't stop raining after all! LOL

Rosewitch, England was definitely one of my favorite places I have ever visited. My folks took me there when I was 14, and I remember bits and pieces the Crown jewels, walking amongst the Stonehenge stones (roped off now, vandalism), Stratford upon Avon. Time for me to take my own 14YO. Im trying to think how I can get over there for a whole summer, LOL. Dlynn, I could have worked so much more. I didnt really look at night time stuff and there was loads to do. Greece: cant help you, but shoot Yasou a line, she went a few years ago. LOL Annie! Teresa, well go together. I wanted to explore more cooking and food shops/stores but didnt get to. Terri, here is more a link to Pictures of England, a website pointed out to me by Denise. I started it on Bourton on the Water, where we stayed for a few days. Thanks Sharon, I was actually thinking how can I even come close to posting her quality of travel guides, I dont do the pictures she does LOL. We might have sat at the same table in the Cheshire Cheeses dining room! Sawdust still there, but we didnt make it to the cellar. I missed a lot of the British Museum. It has changed.check out the new atrium. I couldnt keep up with DH and DS16. Afternoons, when I planned museums, I crashed. Next time! Pam, lots of people did more than we did per day! Theater every night, more attractions, I cant imagine. Gina heh heh yeah I need another vacation like a hole in my head. Speaking of whichDH has another week off in August. Nooooooooo! Kathleen, DH says he took an average of 200 pictures a day. Yup. Me, I just buy the post cards or Google the images, same thing (DARFC from the photo bugs here) Cathy, thanks for giving me the War and Peace moniker heh heh. Next time I go with CF friends! . . . and now it begins I had SPECIFICALLY insisted that the carpet be power stretched. It was written on my order. It was written on the installers' job sheet. So what do I find when I check on their progress? A stinger. Which punches holes in the carpet and is explicitly prohibited by the CRI. I took a picture of it and emailed it to Lowes, and told them that the installer had violated the Mohawk warranty requirements. And hopefully didn't take chunks out of my subfloor in the process, but probably did. The installation team manager called Mohawk to confirm what I told him, and they said yes, stingers are a no go. So, I told them they are going to have to do it all over again, with new fresh materials, and do it right. more fun.

Wow that was great! Incredible plants and incredible pictures. Now I have more on my list. The one that struck me was Happy Valley. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be available anywhere that I can actually buy it.

Hey Ken, I bought Winter Snow and Laura and Darrel this year from Land of the Giants in WI. How old are your plants, do you consider them fast or slow growers? Oh, and what is #23? Love your gardens! Thanks, Nancy

i dont think that is Niagara falls ..... wrong bed... but i cant think what it is.. maybe i will remember to look at the tag later .. and report back ...

its clausa var clausa .... those flowers never open ... i gave away about 100 of them yesterday.. and still have a 6 foot round group... aggressive might be an understatement...

misty gold is laying on the driveway as of saturday ...

WS and L&D are probably 8 to 10 years old ...

$5 tour.. you walk around the 5 acres in 5 mins.... and leave ... and you tell me i must have all 5 named varieties ...

$50 tour.. we spend an hour rambling around ... and talk about hosta generalities ...

$500 tour.. we crawl around ALL the beds.. on all 4's .... discussing each and every hosta.. ad nausuem .. until your spouse is ready to kill themselves with patience .... lol ..

Of course, *I* got the *$500* version--and my hubby was VERY PATIENT!! I was SO proud of him.
I thanked him over and over for this opportunity and he just kept saying,

"I just really loved seeing you so happy and enjoying yourself so much!!!"

Is he a 'keeper' or what!!! Now you know how we've made it 41 yrs. and 'yes' it goes
both ways! :o)

Cynthia--with the *$500* tour, 'Colby' is included as co-host!!!

Ken is pretty adamant about the 'etiquette' on his tours--be informed!! hehehe

I think 'Colby' may be far more lenient about them, though!

Actually--ken was a VERY tolerant host and hosta-tour-guide! He had to answer so many of my
questions, and never really gave much of a hint of the weariness he MUST HAVE felt!! :o)

Okay, ken--that's all of you--I know you want the *hosta* to be the focus, but these scenes,
caught from Steve's vantage point, just begged to be shared and 'tagged'! :o)

I PROMISE I would never bring MY pups-there is a reason most of my hosta are in the front of the house! I meant your beautiful golden in the picture. I did read your rules when I first started reading the forum seriously and regularly and I would NEVER break a rule-LOL or not teehee-if I were lucky enough to visit any of the gardens you all post.

Janice, your husband sounds like a gem and I love his pics, too. Thanks for posting. It is fun to have faces to go with names. BTW, hope his back surgery goes/went well. No fun hurting like that.

Now, should you ever head east toward DC (why oh why would you?), feel free to bring Colby, Brody, and any other pups who would enjoy a romp with my two slap-happy idiots. They can bounce around and we can do some serious creative thinking after wandering around the trampled, crushed, used for a bed hosta and other stuff.

I love all the pictures you have posted of Ken's place - plus your husband's view is a nice touch. I agree with you - H. White Edger is spectacular...a must have! I already checked it out in the Hosta Finder - only one supplier...
