Hehehehe, Berndny, I thought I was developing a touch of dyslexia or something like that.

I can see the Winter Snow is really big. And the one just below/above it must be Goodness Gracious. The one I got from Hallson is still a bright yellow color so it is a real good one to have. You are going to like growing all of those.

Remember that Winter Snow is a large and it is a sport of Sum And Substance, so stand back and give it room. :)

I know it is going to be hard to believe when you plant... but anything less than a 6 foot diameter space for Winter Snow is likely to result in lots of plants moving later... it is also a relatively fast grower - by far the most consistent for me of the whole "Sum" family...

MM, do what is convenient. I'd rather see an upside down picture than none at all. Besides, anybody can fix it real quick and we'd just keep on going. It was just so funny to look at it, and you know, I cannot read upside down as easily as I once could? You had those labels all turned so precisely, it was so tempting to turn my neck juuuuuust a weeeeee bit moooore. Ach! Gee, that one did it! Ouch. Okay so here is the picture turned rightside up again. Yep, everyone loves their Hallson hosta......and lilies too.

Very nice hostas, each seem to have several divisions and the bags seem to be full of large long roots. They should look even bigger and better next spring. None has a hole from slugs or dry spots from heat, Perfect! Congratulations!
I agree with others, Sum and Substance offspring needs a lot of space.

MM...looking fwd. to seeing more pics when planting is done...these mail order plants are really impressive...ALL mail orders are impressive!

General question...are these plants divided just prior to being shipped or are they in pots, ready for sale, then bare rooted for shipment? It makes sense to save on shipping costs this way as well as cost of plants. Anyone?
I'm just curious, having no experience purchasing in this fashion.

BTW...I also have a new LSM and am loving it...it's just plain beautiful; the colour, the leaf size n shape, and I just can't wait for the corrugation to appear. This hosta growing....if you're not waiting on one thing, it's another...soooo darn exciting!

Jo, I think Hallson Gardens dig up and divide your plants straight from their fields, and I think they do it with all their hosta.

If I'm mistaken, someone please correct me.

Jo, I promise you, not all mail order plants are impressive. Hallson's are always nice, though.

My last mail order was in spring, 2012. I paid $45.00 + shipping for an 8" tall 1 eye, Fragrant Queen and an 7" one eye Lakeside Paisley Print. The website said they sold one gallon sized hosta. These were barely bigger than tissue cultures.

It was the last in a series of overpriced, undersized, mislabeled hosta. I swore I would never buy another hosta, by mail, sight unseen (except for Hallson's, of course and maybe LOTG).

I did, however order some hosta from the GW Wild sale. They were great prices, though. So, if they are small, I can say I paid a small price for them.

Jeez, Bkay. You got ripped! (Needless to say). I can see how this would thorougly sour a person on mail-order hosta.

Luckily, this forum has made us aware of several online vendors we can trust. : )

Well after a busy day with the family I got them all planted.But it got to dark for pics.I am very excited to see Lakeside shore master in its maturity!As I am only a few miles from Lake Ontario.I know it's not quite lakeside but hey I will give it a shot.I am also excited to see how Tok. Flavocircinalis turns out.Has anyone grown this one?I gave Fat cat and Winter snow a wide birth for growth.Winter snow will see plenty of that in a few short months yuck!But for now I plant and enjoy a good glass of wine with my wife and enjoy my Hostas.

Sounds like a plan.

I just looked up 'Fat Cat' in the hosta library. Wow, no wonder you are giving it room; It's a big, beautiful monster, isn't it?! Great choices you've made. I got 'Dark Shadows' earlier this season from Hallson Gardens as a bonus plant, and it's grown quite vigorously in just a few months. I wasn't really familiar with it; Well, I am now and I love it. 'Tokudama Flavocircinalis' I don't have, but I've seen many pics of healthy, gorgeous specimens posted by forum members. Again, Enjoy! And yes, please post pics at your earliest convenience.

Thought i would post a few pics.I did not target the new additions spec but just took shots of the hosta beds.I took the pics with a digital cam then uploaded them to laptop.Some on here seem to have a problem when i take the pics with my I pad.Although dusting of the Pc makes me really like the simpicity of apple products!

Hi MM (I had a friend named Mary Margaret and we always called her "MM") your beds look great. I'm sighing for lack of real ROCKS in my garden.

Either way your pictures come, they are clear and view nicely. I'm thinking of replacing my 10" tablet with an iPad simply because of the better camera.....but then, I always upload mine to Flickr first, and any rotating is done there.

Make it easy on yourself, we can live with the pics any way they hit the screen. :) You are very considerate.
