Hi, I'm seeking aconitum and other winter-sowable seeds in addition to a variety of peppers, sweet and hot (paprika and hungarian wax comes to mind). Take a look at my list, although it's quite humble. Thanks! Adam

Hi Gloria, I did WS monkshood two years ago (winter 05-06). For some reason, I don't have it in my records, which is really weird, because I KNOW I WSed it. Anyway, going from (fairly poor) memory, I think I had okay germination. I'm going to guess that I sowed approximately 12 seeds, because that is the average number I put in a mik jug. I would say I got at least 50% germination, probably more; I think I got a good 8 seedlings at least. My problem seemed more in getting the seedlings to survive. They sat in their pots for what seemed forever and just didn't do anything! I swear by fall they were the same size they were in spring. So I planted them out in fall, and only half came back. Out of those four, three are doing very well. The other one is struggling mightily, but they are all in dry shade, so I'm not doing them any favors, I guess. Try doing a search here. I recall someone else having the same experience as me - germinating okay, seedlings not growing, etc, Also, I have to add that I do little to no research for the most part before sowing a seed. I just throw it out there in its milk jug. Perhaps these need warm-cold-warm, etc., and I did't know. Good luck! :) Dee

Hmm, I always thought they needed cold strat too. I've had success WSing them. I get good germination, although it's keeping them alive after that where I have problems, lol. I'm going to check out Gardens North.... although I really shouldn't. I've already ordered too many seeds - again! :) Dee
