Interesting to hear what the big box stores around the country sell. I suppose it's up to the individual manager's to pick what heuch's they stock? In OKC Lowes started with 2 gallon pots of Peach Crisp and Fire Chief. Although I did find a Georgia Peach marked as a Peach Crisp and snatched it up. They also carried 2 gallon pots with three more common heuchs such as Southern Comfort, Palace Purple and a green one who's name I forget. All 2 gallons were $14.98. Now Lowes has 1 gallon heuchs for $9.98. In the Carnival series, Watermelon, Cocomint and Coffee Bean. They also have Golden Zebra. Home Depot carries one gallon Heuch from one nursery for $6.98 and another for $9.98. This past week the $6.98 Heuchs were one sale with other perrenials for $3.33 each. Different stores had different selections. Picked up Obsidian, Firefly, Carnival Watermelon and Plum Pudding. The Plum Pudding look exactly like the palace Purple I have only taller. Anyone think they are similar or did I get mismarked plants? They are really dark purple and there's no veining.

I am not very experienced, but I disagree that the seedlings will be harmed by frost, unless I am not reading your post correctly. Were they grown inside or outside in the saucers? I have grown BBS seedlings this year using the winter sowing method- outside in recycled milk jug containers and they are not susceptible to frost. I am jealous because mine have only just sprouted and are not 3 inches high. Now I think yours must be inside if they are that large and should be hardened off before being planted out. It was very easy to grow them outside because I just planted them and forgot about them pretty much, just making sure they were moist. Good luck with your bluestem!

As bboy said, 1 is a Portulacaria (I think probably Portulacaria afra). It is Elephant Bush, Elephant Food, and various other nicknames, and is sometimes called Dwarf Jade, but it is not truly a jade -- jades are in the Crassula genus, a different genus of succulents. [Though they resemble each other, Jade plants and Portulacaria afra are not in the same genus, not in the same family, and not even in the same order. Hard to tell what they are from this distance, I'd guess the 1st is Carnosa, the 2nd either that or maybe a Pubicalyx. What info is the seller offering pls? Seems to me they'd have something to say esp. for plants this large, where'd they come from &why they're being sold, etc?
