The A/C is almost always running! My plants don’t seem to mind too much haha. I have 2 grow light bulbs, but may have to invest in a gro light stand or two as the weather gets cooler. Right now the tropicals are sitting on a coffee table facing a window with bright sunlight and they are mostly doing well.

What makes you doubt Pecan? If there are lots, you could dig a young one up and see what kind of nut is on the bottom.

Wow, the leaves on both the Peris Japonica and Kalmia Latifolia look very similar to my plant (and to each other in my eyes). The plant in my yard has never flowered! Which now I feel sad about because the pictures of flowers on each of these plants are quite beautiful. I found some pictures of Peris “mountain fire” and I think it might be that, because some of the new growth comes in reddish. Mine is still a very dull red compared to some of the pictures I’m seeing, but a few look similar. Though I’m also seeing a mountain laurel “red bandit” with similar reddish stems/leaves. I suppose either way, my plant is probably not very happy if it’s not flowering. And since I can’t divide it I suppose I’ll just let it be. It is under a large pine tree that we’ll eventually have to remove (too close to the house), so hopefully it will flower once that’s gone and it gets more light. At least now that I have an idea of what it is i can see about pruning. It is growing into the driveway a bit. I’ll have to look for something else to plant on my other spot where I need some privacy. Thanks so much for your help. I’m new to gardening and appreciate the guidance.

Those are suckers from a tree. Either a nearby one or one which has been cut down in the vicinity Any plum, apple or peach trees nearby? It isn't the hydrangea. Those have opposite foliage. These have alternate.
