Thank you esh ga. I'll probably be wearing gloves when I move it. I'm into native plants anyway, so I figure that I should keep it. It was a volunteer that I've never even watered, and it survived full sun and long dry periods. And looks pretty.

Cheryl, Liza, thanks for responding...I did give them some fertilizer the other day....and the soil is mainly topsoil, with little composted manure etc....not like how I plant roses.. Cheryl, how large are your venidium blooms? I thought I read that they were supposed to get to be 4 inches wide...so far, my blooms are only about 1 inch wide!! BTW, when I opened my email (your post), it said that you planted your Venidium about 4-5 feet apart! (The " symbol ALWAYS is translated into a ' symbol in my emails). I wondered, wow, she must have a HUGE garden to space her plants that far apart (or be crazy!) :0) Yeah, our weather has been so strange. It is very hot lately, (after months of cool temps and rain)....I have been watering often. Thanks for the help guys! :0) Phyl

Not any of the above, but it is a weed. It grows here too. Not even sure that it is a member of the Apiaceae family, but the leaves sure indicate that it might be. I would dig it out. I have Queen Anne's lace. The white umbels are 4 inches across and have the tell-tale small dark red-violet flower in the center. It was long ago said to be a drop of blood from poor Queen Anne. that is not Queen Anne's Lace. It's not Sweet Cicely, Poisonous Hemlock, Wild carrot, Wild Parsley, Wild Celery or any others in that family, but it grows all through the woods and in abandoned fields and roadsides and in many gardens (wink).
