My leafy veggie plants are being eaten -- what to do?
Comments (10)Rabbits' eating habit is very obvious, they will eat things in whole, from top to bottom, some time leaving nothing behind. Summer insects will make holes. Snails, slugs will start (usually) from the outer most leaves, will eat the tender parts, leaving behind the vains. Also, snail/slugs need a bigger plants to munch on, because they hang on the leaves and start chewing them. Since you are in zone 9 probably you have snails, sluggs or both. SLUGGO, as I have heard is a safe organic cure for snal/slug problem. OR, if you find out that you have snails, you may consider hunting them and eating them. As the saying goes: IF YOU CANNOT BEAT THEM, EAT THEM(Grin !)...See MoreKeeping records of my hosta collection
Comments (24)Hi Betty, First of all, your platform Windows XP SP2 is just fine. Windows Vista just came out but I would not buy it yet as it may have a lot of bugs...wait a bit...at least this is what I'm going to do befor switching to Windows Vista. More importantly is your Office package. From Office 97, I have upgraded to Office 2000, and last year to the latest Office XP.That seems to work fine with me. You have a lot of hostas. WOW!! 770 is a lot. It may be that you have reached over the limit that your blank CD can handle. Let's pursue this privately if you dont mind. My email is ghislain@hawk.igs.net The last CD that I burned took 550megs. If we exchange coordinates, we could possible send each other our CD backups. Hoping to hear from you. Comments (55)Hey Maow! Look what you found, eh? Lol First off, I just have to say again that I think your NOID is beautiful! I really hope mine will turn into that!!! I just took an update pic of Knockout and the NOID as it looks now...still small leaves but I attribute it to overwintering a division in a pot in this climate. I'm undecided where to plant it but I better come up with an answer soon. It will grow much better in the ground. Earlier I posted a thread where I thought I might have id'd the NOID as being Knockout. Ken thought it was close enough that it may be a Knockout. I hope it flowers so we can narrow it down some more. For now I have pics filed under both NOID and Knockout albums. See what you think, Maow. We could always revisit it in the fall if we can't get any closer I.D. now?...See Morewhat is happening to my hostas?
Comments (11)Hey Sparkle:( I see somebody still remembers Dick Tracy) Are your Hostas planted under any large trees? Hostas like alot of water, and with the drought we have been having this Summer, it is hard for them to get enough water. The trees are sucking up just about everything that goes into the ground. The majority of my Hostas are not very happy this Summer. I water every single morning almost for two solid hours. I thought that may be to much, however when I started watering even more, some of my Hostas started recovering. When it is as dry as it has been many trees root systems head for the surface area to catch moisture. Has Hostas are fairly shallow rooted, they will dry out easily with all this heat. I fertilize all my garden Monthly with Miracle Grow and everything seems to be doing well, except my Hostas. I began increasing the water I give them, and they have perked up....See Morefranknjim
