Try not to be too hard on yourself dirtgirl. According to some maps I saw, the lesser is in Illinois and the greater is pretty close to southern IL in Tennessee. Sometimes because of weather (hurricanes, drought,etc.) birds end up in places they're not usually found, so maybe a bird ate some seeds further south and deposited them in your area. I have the feeling there are probably more of those flowers around there that you just haven't seen yet. Hopefully once you protect it, it will begin to grow into more areas. Can you call a local university and talk to someone in their horticulture department?

Seanter - I have some astible that I could trade for a nice eye of your Hosta Halycon..... Unfourtunately, I didn't save the tag so I don't know the variety. It is a low growing/spreading plant with light pink flower scapes that are about 12" tall. It took a couple seasons to get going in my garden but now it has really taken off. Around here foxglove is a full sun or light shade plant. In the rest of the country they're shade plants so people moving here tend to think they need shade here to but they don't. And most all the gardening books list them as shade plants too. Not so here. Reseeders will reseed where they want, not where you want. You can always transplant the volunteers. They do like organic matter and moisture and don't seem to mind competition, I have them coming up all over my raised bed right in with all the other plants, in a southern exposure with sun nearly all day long - long enough for the roses to thrive. I like it fine that way. Some get yanked, some get moved. They're not long lived perennials as stated above, but biennials that reseed and put out offshoots. You see them all over in sunny roadcuts and clearcuts and disturbed pastures, the key is moist soil.
