Vegetables groundhogs won't eat
Comments (51)I've killed my share over the years. I didn't like it or look forward to it, but it had to be done. No one here said anything about enjoying killing animals. They are rodents that carry diseases and eat my food. I kill them with the same mindset that I set a mousetrap with..I hope it's quick and the animal doesn't suffer, but it has to go. I grow my food because I prefer it to store bought. Gardening is not easy, and rodents make it that much harder. I've had a garden here for almost 30 years and this year is the worst I've ever seen for groundhogs. There seems to be a population explosion ...my neighbors and I have killed at least 10 between us this year, and we are very rural. In years past, maybe I had 1, some years none..but this has been a bad year....See MoreAre deer or groundhog attracted to blueberry foliage?
Comments (6)I planted 10 unprotected blueberry bushes this spring and something has been occasionally shearing off the growing tips - not eating them, just snipping off anywhere from a few inches to a foot of cane with a clean diagonal cut and leaving the cut piece next to the plant. Likeliest candidates seem to be rabbits or deer, as I haven't seen any groundhogs this year. I don't know if this is going to harm the bushes' growth over the long term and if the critters will back off once the bushes are bigger, but it is distressing. ~emmers...See MoreGroundhog in backyard
Comments (13)No rolled up sod this morning, thinking it was originally groundhogs I laid out bright balloons, pinwheels and spread a ton of Costco Chili Powder around the grass. Coincidence or not who knows but it also seems that the squirrels are scared of the pinwheels, something I should have put 2 months ago before they ravished my tomatoes (unlike any other summer, I'm assuming it was due to the dry summer we had and they were super thirsty)....See MoreJust for laughs on Groundhog Day
Comments (13)We've got 6 inches of snow over a thin layer of ice. Dropping down to the single digits over night and no real warm up until Monday...............Brad: My thoughts are with you on the ice. It can do serious damage to everything if it gets thick enough. I say this from experience..........They are predicting another arctic system to come through around next week-end. I'm really not fond of February..............Maryl...See Morewardw
