What is this yellow flowered prairie native?

I found a yellow flowered plant in one of our pastures that I cannot identify even after searching through every wildflower book and website I can find. It was located in what would be a dry tallgrass prairie type area. It was about 2 feet tall with a single tall stalk with leaves alternating up the stalk along with yellow flowers. The flowers were not daisy like, pea like or compound. They were almost tulip-like with frilly yellow stamens sticking out the top. And the sepals were sticking backwards away from the flower like a star. It is so hard to explain! I've posted pictures on my website in the hopes that someone can enlighten me. This is my first link so hopefully it works.
