Any harmless way to keep squirrels away from bulbs?
Comments (21)Emerogork2, what lovely bulb flowers you have! If mine turn out half as beautiful as yours next spring, I'd be happy. We are back from the nursery. This is our plan: - 1/2" chicken wire underneath the bulbs - "basket" style (soil would, of course, be layered first on top of the wire, then bulbs); - 1" chicken wire on top of the soil, then add mulch to cover it. A nurseryman advised us to get garden staples and we bought some before seeing pitimpani's post. We had an "aha!" moment and wondered why we didn't think of a simpler solution such as bricks, but I guess it's part of being a newbie gardener. We will still use a few bricks and save some staples for the future. Thanks a bunch to all! What a wonderful forum....See Morehow to keep birds/squirrels away from pears
Comments (9)Granolamom, I never got any fruit from any of my fruit trees because of the squirrels. I bought bird netting and put it on the trees and so far for a couple of years I'm getting fruit. I would suggest that if your tree is large to put two large nets on it instead of one. I've been using one per tree and while I've kept my fruit they have turned out small. I just made a post about it and realize from "Fruitnut's" advice that I'm crowding the fruit and not letting enough sun in. One other thing I've found is that if the squirrels can't get the fruit they will go after everything and anything else you have planted...little buggers!...See MoreHow do I keep squrrels away from garlic?
Comments (3)Lilacs, in the fall, I have problems in general with squirrels digging in my beds, but they're usually digging in their nuts. Come spring, they're digging looking for their nuts (sigh, I toss them as I find them). I have found a clove here and there dug up, but I didn't notice them being eaten. Maybe your squirrels have a much more gourmet tastes over there? :) Sorry, I have no idea how to keep squirrels away. Then again, I live in a borough called, "Squirrel Hill."...See MoreHow to keep cats/squirrels away from garden?
Comments (1)You could try a spray with hot pepper/peppermint oil/and vinegar. I've heard that's supposed to work. Or buy a dog lol. (Also if you have a real problem with the cats you could live trap them and bring them to a shelter? or Call animal control or something.) Good luck!...See Moreofionnachta
