I looked online and K. Ceratophylla didn't seem to fit, but it led me to a couple of links and it seems that the first one could be K. Longiflora var. Coccinea (??) Pictures online give mixed reports. Some pictures look like mine and other don't. hmm. Joscience, I think we've got a positive ID on the second one. Good to know it should be fine in our winter. All of my other echeverias are going into their growing modes.

Thank you everyone, especially pinetree30! I will definitely stop by the Eddy Arboretum on my way up to the mountains. I will start out in the Tahoe/Desolation Wilderness and marvel at some fine Abies magnifica stands, then head south to Calaveras Big Trees, and to the east side of the Sierras in an attempt to collect Pinus monophylla seeds. If there is time, I will continue on to the Kings Canyon/Kearsarge Pass area. I will take my camera and share the picture when I return. Resin  I have seen larches at high elevations in the Stanislaus NF area. Those would have been Larix occidentalis? - There is a little town in the area named Tamarack.

The deeply cleft petals reminds me of one of the Epilobium sp. (Fireweed). CalPhotos should have photos of all the native ones. Check the link for the Sierra species. Rb Here is a link that might be useful: Epilobium obcordata

Goldgirl, I generally only buy lobster and mushroom soup base because I can find all the other soup bases in stores. I can usually find lobster soup base, and I used to be able to find mushroom soup base, but not recently. Anyway, it works out to be cheaper to order it on line. I try to buy the ones without MSG, although a little MSG does not bother me. The vegetable Mire Poix base is good, but I didn't especially like the chili base - it was not much different from what I got at the Korean market. The crab base is good too, but I buy that locally at Surfas. The seafood soup bases really help boost the flavor of seafood soups that I make, and I make them fairly frequently. I haven't used them in sauces, however. Lars
